My 1983 chevy K10 is having problems with a lifter knocking. When the truck is running white smoke comes from the muffler. The truck dies out after a short distance.

Lifter noise is typically more of a tap than a knock.

White smoke is an indication of coolant leaking into the combustion chamber.

I suggest compression testing all cylinders to help determine if there may be a head gasket leak. Extremely weak compression due to a leaking head gasket can cause poor performance and stalling.

White smoke is an indication of a blown head gasket. That would explain lifter tick, you have coolant in your oil.

My Ford Windstorm Has White Smoke Coming Out Of Exhaust,ConstanLy,Thick White smoke

White smoke is an indication of water in the exhaust. This can be from condensation in the muffler, but that type of smoke usually dissipates after a minute or two of running. Constant, thick white smoke is usually a sign of water leakage into the combustion chamber(s), either via a blown head gasket, cracked head, or cracked block.

White smoke coming from the muffler, loud noise...

One potential cause is too much gas. It may be running "rich". Your car may also be burning a little oil. White smoke is water or antifreeze. If you are loosing coolant from the radiator, it's probably a blown head gasket. If not, it is just condensation in the exhaust pipe that is evaporating as the pipes heat up. If the car is running too rich, the unburned gas will cause black smoke and burning oil smoke will be blue.

Hope helps (remember rated this).

Ticking noise from engine

You might have a bad hydraulic valve lifter (assuming this engine has them)... you could try an aftermarket product designed to unstick valve lifters.... any auto parts store carries them.

That white cloud is caused by a blown head gasket, the knocking noise could be, a rod bearing, thrust bearing, somewhere in the valve train. Replace the head gasket and see if it still knocks, and change the oil and filter too. If it still knocks, than you have bigger problems.
