With most GM vehicles, should the proper maintenance be done at all the proper intervals, there is no reason why the engine cannot reach a full odometer rollover. Most of the GM cars we have had in our household have not had to have a rebuild until well into 200k-550k. But never a full replacement needed.

Mitsubishi Mighty Max has 170,000 miles on it and maintenance light came on and will not go off

Yes, unplug the battery for 30 seconds, and the ECU will reset. If the light comes on again, get the error code read to see what the ECU thinks is the problem. At 170,000 miles, this is likely burning oil causing a misfire, might be the engine temp sensor wires are broken (causes hard starts when cold), might just be low power steering oil or even worn brake pads causing a low brake fluid level.

98 f-150 runs rough after it warms up. 170,000 miles. Check engine light been on for years. I haven't had it reset and read recently.

Why would you tell anyone that?

Check for codes

You know the check light is on & is where you start

There is no resetting a check light
All your doing is clearing all data needed to diagnose
any issues

I have a 94 caprice lt1 5.7 I brought a brand new battery for it and when I turn it over it don't say nun at all no lights or nothing come on but da battery has juice

I dont know which model you have. My sons 94 caprice classic fully loaded he got used at an auction. Didnt know it at the time but it was one a cop car. Look on the front of engine under the crank case there should be something called an optispark on it. It has four wires coming out of either side and they run back to your plugs. Thats what was happening to my sons

Engine check light is on always now when engine is running, how ever car runs fine.car has a 170,000 miles on engine.

Any time you have a check light or any other lights. You have a possible system failure, and need to have it checked for a possible code, then diagnosed and repaired.

If you have inspection in your state,it will fail

Not to be hurtfull, but, these sort of lights have been on most all vehicles for 30 years.
There is no reason, anyone owning a vehicle, shouldn't have an owners manual, and be aware of the vehicles operation,as far as check lights.

This was brought about 30 years ago,in the US at least,as part of a program, to reduce exhaust emissions.

02 grand prix temp rises over 210 then drops back down. heater

dear friend-there is a couple of things you can do to find the problem, when the engine is cold remove the radiator cap start the engine then look inside to see if the water is circulating, all so look for bubbles in the water,if there is bubbles, you might have a blown head gasket,if there is circulation the water pump is ok,then get the engine up to working temp, then feel both the top and bottom radiator they should be the same temp,if not then the termostat is at fault

not usually its on the right side in either a silver or black colored can about 6"high X 3" diameter and has about a 1/2" black screw-on cap, inside this fitting you will see a tire valve core though

I would try to clean out the egr valve , check for leaks at the evap canister, check the evap canister soleniod , and lastly change out the cat convertor, The cat convertor is most likely under the federal emmission warranty of 8 yrs,.80000 miles. You can take the vehicle in to have checked by local dealer or call gm customer service to check the warranty on the cat. convertor by giving them your vehicle number.

2002 Pontiac Grand Prix Thermostat

as you face the engine the thermostat bell is on the right (drivers side) Follow the radiatoe hose. Remove the two bolts and raise the bell still attatched to the hose. the thermostat is there with the rubber seal. You can gently pry the thermostat out with a screwdriver or something similar. Put in new thermostat be sure it is the same as the old one, and then replace or change the seal (be sure it is the smae size and thickness as the old one as I got the wrong size from Napa) Then replace the bell, and tighten, but not over tighten. I hope this helps!

Buying 2001 RX300 65,000 miles extra clean

If you aren't mechanical, have someone who is check the car out. Specifically, the transmission fluid for color and smell (On toyota's they are to be changed every 30K miles, few drivers do this), and pull the spark plugs to see if they all appear relatively clean (a burnt looking plug indicates an engine problem). Ask to see the maintenance records. Oil should be changed every 3-4,000 miles if regular oil, 8-10,000 if synthetic.

The next BIG thing regarding maintenance is timing belt and water pump at 90,000 miles. Expect 500-700 for this, not at the lexus dealer. Probably double at the lexus dealer.

I would be interested under 12,000. Very interested under 10,000.

FYI, I'm driving a 95 ES300 with 170,000 miles and it runs like a top. These cars require very little in the way of repair if they are maintained. My goal is 300,000 just to see if it can be done. Unfortunately, I drive a total of 1,000 miles a month these days. So it will be a while. On the interior, you can have very nice new leather seats installed if the rest of the interior is in reasonable shape. Cost around $1,000 or a little less.

Good luck!!
