This is a similar problem i had with my 96 tahoe, the cause was a faulty fuel pressure regulator and frozen open fuel injectors. the seal failed on the pressure regulator and allowed fuel to poor into the engine. Eventually the engine hydro locked and ruiend all four oxygen sensors and one of my catylitic converters, my converters are sold as a set so had to replace both of the along with the sensors and the spider injection unit along with the fuel pressure regulator.

I take it you're doing an oil change and made this discovery? Some gas is normal, especially after winter months (high idle/choke) Could be sticky injectors - run a good fuel system cleaner through it, clean MAF and oil change/filter and check after about 2-300 miles. If there's alot of fuel, then you might consider changing injectors

SOURCE: 1995 gmc jimmy 4x4 rough idle smell gas from tail pipe

To check EGR valve, plug the vacuum hose to it, and it should not get hot anymore. It if does, it is leaking.
But gas smell is usually bad plug wire or plug.
With good insulation, remove one sparkplug wire at a time, to see if one has no effect. That is the target.

GAS IN OIL CAN BE CAUSED BY BAD FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR, LEAKING FUEL INJECTORS AND WEAK SPARK IGNITION SYSTEM.

1995 GMC Jimmy hums/whines in rear (loudest by tires, but not very loud) when idling.

1995 GMC Jimmy 3.5L HO - lots of engine clatter, very low oil pressure - 10-30 on dash gauge from idle to 3000 rpm, oil full. Oil pump problem or major repair??

if the noise is coming from the oil pan you may have bad rod bearings or main bearings or the oil pick up tube could have also came loose but since you have oil pressure im gonna say your looking at replacing or rebuilding the engine witch is a major repair.

1995 gmc jimmy-won't accelerate wants to stall

could be the fuel pump ...you will need to do a fuel pressure test on it ..the pressure should be 63 anything lower even so much as a few lbs will cause this to happen ...as well if it sat that long i would consider a complete tune up and check all vacuum lines for dry-rot
