Battery starter or selenoid on starter...sounds like weak battery tho...be sure to eliminate by trying to boost tapping on starter while attempting to start may also work as they get stuck up sometimes.hope this helps.

2000 chev wont start at key

I think the purple wire (or maybe the yellow) from the neutral safety switch goes to the coil side of the starter relay, turning it on so power is sent from there to the starter solenoid. You could check for this signal to the relay with a test light. The key must be held in start while you probe the other two terminals for the relay. If the signal is there, either a bad relay or the coil side of relay is not grounded properly. It is possible that the coil side ground is the neutral safety switch-grounding the relay's coil side only in park or neutral-in which case the nagging light on shifter (between off and run, it only works?) may be telling you the safety switch is the problem.

You may need to look at a wiring diagram, Greg. But the starter relay is the last component in the start circuit before the starter solenoid. From battery to ignition switch to "crank" fuse to neutral safety switch to starter relay to starter solenoid to starter-and back to battery through ground. That is the start circuit. Just that the wiring tying them all together makes it complicated.

My 2000 bravada oldsmobile wont start is it the sartaer

It depends upon what actually happens when you turn the key. If the engine turns over, but doesn't start, it is NOT the starter. If all you hear is a clicking sound, or the starter motor engages but doesn't have the power to turn it over, then it could be wither the starter or the battery. A quick and easy check when this happens is to turn on the interior light. If, when you turn the key and get the click or no activity, the interior light dims way down or goes completely out, it is probably the battery. If you turn the key and get nothing at all, things are more difficult. The interior lamp test should be performed. If the light goes out immediately, try the battery. If the light doesn't flicker or dim at all, then the problem could be the starter, the starter relay, the Park/Neutral Position (PNO) switch, the ignition switch, or the IGN E (Fuse 22) or IGN A (Fuse 34) fuse in the fuse block under the hood.

99 cabrio has power, starter bench tested good, but nothing when turning key. radio, lights work

With the starter installed try checking for power from the ign to the starter, you will need a test light for this..Have someone hold the key in the starting position and then check to see if the light comes on..
If it does not than you might have a bad ign switch or natural switch

Van will not crank over, seems to have no power to the starter

Battery? If OK, turn the ignition switch to START and listen for a click indicating the starter relay is closing. If it clicks, the starter may have failed. If no click, check 10A CRANK fuse 8 in the instrument panel fuse block. If OK, check 40A IGN-A fuse in the underhood fuse/relay center. If OK, check for 12V at the top of the IGN-A fuse. If OK, the ignition switch, the park/neutral position switch (shift quadrant), or the starter itself are the only other possibilities

2002 Chevy S10, 2.2 L automatic. Intermittently, when I turn the key, ALL electrical goes off. No gauges, no door lights, clock, anything. I've been able to get it start in two ways - jiggle the cable...

Ignition switch maybe , GM has problems with switch . Test it ! Do you know how to do automotive electrical testing ? Test main powers to the ignition switch . Back probe the B+ power wires Both are red at the ignition switch ! They get B+ from IGN A & IGN C fuse's in the under hood fuse/ relay box ! One is 40 amp , the other is 20 amp .
This problem your having you say happens when you turn the key , correct ? Turn the key to ? ON - START ? or doesn't matter ? The ignition switch supply's B+ voltage to all the things your losing power to.

Why wont my 2000 sunfire start?

starter relay, ignition switch, park switch.need to use a volt meter and start at the starter, see if you have at least 12 volts.if there is have the battery tested.does your head lights come on?next no voltage, go to the fuse box under the hood and check for (2) 12 volt powers with the key on and a good ground.if ok replace the relay.next move the trans shifter to neutral with foot on brake and try and start if it starts you need park switch.if not next is the ign.switch to test, you will need to locate the starter wire and check for voltage when starting if none replace the ign.switch hope this helped.also the alternator has nothing to do with the cranking of the engine on this car.

Think the ign switch is bad, not key switch, but column switch. need expert advice on how to change. any ideas??? key turns, locksmith said key switch is not problem, key turns but no starter action? help...

did you check your fuses and relay for power a test light will work. start with the fuse first. the relay should have 1 power all the time. the other will with the key turned to start. rare for the switch to go bad. best of luck
