HI I BELIEVE I HAVE THE SOLUTION TO YOUR PROBLEM, I BELIEVE THAT IT MAY BE THE HARMONIC BALANCER BECAUSE I HAVE A 93 FORD TEMPO GL, 4 CYLINDER, 2.3 EFI AND I AM GOING THROUGH THE SAME PROBLEM, MY TEMPO RATTLES AN IS NOISEY WHEN IN PARK, WHILE STOPPED AT A LIGHT, RATTLES EVEN MORE WHEN FOOT IS ON THE BRAKE AND THE VECHILE IS IN DRIVE OR REVERSE. ALSO CHECK THE PULLEY ON THE AC COMPRESSOR. GOOD LUCK WITH THE HARMONIC BALANCER CUZ YOU HAVE TO PULL THE ENTIRE ENGINE FROM THE CAR INORDER TO REPLACE IT.

Are you sure it is the water pump, your year had a real problem with the crankshaft pulley coming apart, rattles like crazy, real loud, water pumps don't as a rule make very much noise they just start leaking.

2000 GMC, 80200 miles, SLS; 6 Cyl 4.3L; When do I repalce the timing belt and water pump? If it brakes while I am driving will it mess up the valves?

The 4.3L is not an interference fit engine so a timing CHAIN failure will not result in additional damage. Honestly, I wouldn't worry about it until over 100k. Replace the water pump when it fails. Usually the seals will start to leak and coolant will be seep from the "weep hole"
I hope this answers your question.

I have a 97 Tahoe. No heat comes out when I sit idle, when I start driving it starts to come out luke warm only, when I turn the fan on high it starts to blow cold air again wether I am idle or driving. ...

hi, there could be two things, one is that you may have a going bad water pump if you haven´t replaced it in the last 3 years then i recomend you to do it, if you do repalce it in less that that time then you may have a bad heater core, but that is a pain to replace so i recomendo you to take it to a local shop to repalce it for you, hope this helps.

VERY EASY TAKE OUT THE BELTS DISCONNET HOSES WITH A LONG WRENCH TAKE BOLTS OUT, CLEAN THE AREA OF THE WATER PUMP HOUSING ( OLD GASKET RESIDUALS) , DRY EVERYTHING VERY NICE , GLUE AND INSTALL THE NEW GASKET IN THE WATER PUMP , AND RE INSTALLS, IN THE SAME POSITION YOU TOOK THE OLDER ONE OUT, DONT MOVE ANYTHING, REPALCE BELTS ... AND ROLL.

How hard is it to change the water pump on my 1991 Buick Regal 3.8 engine. It is not leaking but car keeps getting hot, I have changed the radiator

The pump is not that hard to change but if you haven't tried a new thermostat yet then i would suggest that you try that first,it is the most common cause of overheating problems, next being the rad fan it's self not coming on either because of a bad motor or a temperature sensor failure or a defective relay.Let me know what you have eliminated and we can go on from there.

94 Jetta w/2.0 engine overheats.I took it to a mechanic and he said my thermostat was fine.So what else could be causing it to overheat??And it does have a small oil leak too but I can't pin point it.

Overheating could be anything in the cooling system. Thermostat is out, could be radiator, water pump, broken belts which cause the water pump to not move, cylinder head warped, cracked, or the cylinder head gasket.

Water Retention

I am sure the pressure test will show the location of the leaks, also no explorer does not have a rear heater core.
