Normally this is due to the way the Pipe is bent when it was installed but if you have upset someone in the younger generation it may be because they put a Ping Pong balls in the filler. I have the same problem with my Ford Escape. The only solution I found was to use the slower Auto Fill lock position instead of squeezing the handle all the way.

What is the average fuel consumption of a 1996 Toyota Tamarax FX GL Wagon?

do you want to figure out how to figure yours out. a 20 year old car nothing is going to be average. to get it better lose some weight in the car. meaning don't carry 500 lbs of stuff you don't need. the less it weights the less the engine has to work which saves gas use. fill your tank normal till the pump shuts off and don't pull the handle to add more fuel. then write down the mileage. drive the car 200 miles. fill the tank again the same way. then figure out the miles you drove and how much gas you put in the tank. if you drove 200 miles and used 10 gallons you get 20 miles to the gallon. doing a tune up and checking your air in the tires can increase the mileage. good idea to check it first before doing the tune up to show it did some good. I did a tune up once and got almost 5 more miles to the gallon after

When the fuel gauge reaches half or less, the check engine light comes on and stays on until tank is re-filled. Also when filling the tank, the station gas pump shuts off about 5 gallons before tank is...

Hi! You definitely have a problem on the fuel float thats why the check engine light is coming out. Please replace the fuel float and you'll be good. HOpe this helps and have a good one!

2001 hyundai accent, trouble filling gas tank

I have 2002 Hyundai Accent. When fueling, I had to trickle the fuel in to prevent the fuel dispenser from constantly shutting off. Even then I could only get about a quarter gallon at a time between fuel shutoffs. Would take 10-15 minutes to put in 10 gallons. Very frustrating. I found and fixed the problem today. There is a charcoal cannister that is part of the Evaporative Emissions control system. It is located inside the rear fender well on the driver side, behind the driver side rear tire. You cant miss it. Actually looks like a square plastic box and it has hoses coming out of it. I removed the entire charcoal cannister assembly in about 15 minutes. Follow carefully. First, remove the electrical connector to the purge control valve (this valve assemby is mounted to the side of the charoal cannister on a bracket). No big deal. Then disconnect the three hoses that come out from the cannister assembly on the one side that faces the rear tire. Two of these hoses are small diameter about 1/4" and one is larger at about 5/8 inch diameter. Then you remove the 3 bolts that hold the whole cannister to the car frame. Then the whole piece comes out. Once I got the cannister and purge control valve out of the car as a whole assy I found the problem. The larger of the 3 hoses you disconnected as well as the port it connects to on the cannister was packed with the small charcoal pellets and actually formed a solid plug inside that larger hose. I had to stick a screw driver through that hose to knock the plug out that those charcoal pellets had formed. It all makes sense now. When you fill the tank with gas, you also push out air and vapor from the gas tank that is being displaced by the rising fuel in the tank. That vapor is supposed to go through that larger hose to the charcoal cannister where the fumes are removed by the charcoal. If that hose is plugged, like mine was, then the vapor has nowhere to go as you fill the tank and it increases pressure within the tank it causes the fuel dispenser nozzle to shutoff because it keeps detecting a pressure increase within the tank. That's my theory. I don't have the Hyundai design prints to confirm it. I had to tilt the charcoal dispenser so that the pellets came out of that larger hose port on the cannister. Like I said, even the port itself was full of pellets. So I poured out enough to clear the pellets that were in the hose port. I cleaned out the hose. Put everything back and went to go fill with gas. I filled that tank at full bore with no problem. Have the dealer or your mechanic check the ports and the hoses off the cannister. If they are filled with charcoal pellets, that is the problem. That should cost less than some of the fixes I have been reading about here.

When switch to front tank truck stalls. why

Bad fuel pump. I've had dual tank pumps down more times than I care to count on F-Series trucks. Every time I've looked for ANYTHING else it could be besides a pump, and of COURSE, everyone's solution initialy is "Hmmmm, let me FILL UP THE TANK first". So yes, I have to drop a FULL fuel tank, change the pump, and loose 4 gallons on my shop floor. Repeat once a week for 15 years. And in 15 years, I've never NOT had a "hey, this thing stalls when I hit "X" fuel position" be anything less than the worst case situation... A full tank and a bad pump. the Stick

When I pump gas, the gas pump clicks off every few seconds or so. I can't get more than 2 gallons in the tank before it clicks off. I takes me like 10 minutes to fill my tank.

is this happening at the same pump??? Each pump has a tiny vacuum line that's located in the spout. When the gas reaches a certain level and starts to cause a vacuum, the pump shuts off

1996 Chrysler Sebring fuel pump automatic shut off

It sounds like the vent hose or tube from the fuel tank to the side of the inlet assembly is restricted. It can be twisted or bent. I've seen one case where it was misrouted and smashed against the frame rail. The vent tube allows air to escape while filling with fuel.
