Question about Chevrolet Cavalier

It seems like theres no fuel getting to the injectors or the schrader valve, no air or gas is spitting out, took the fuel filter off and turned the key and it spayed gas out soo ruled the pump out

Replace the filter, sounds like it's clogged.

replace the MAP sensor or check the vaccum and electrical wires to it or idel air control selinoid, if the feul rail near the injectors have a schrader valve like a tire valve stem turn the key all the way on and push it in and see how hard the feul spraycomes out and that will also bleed out the airbubblesif there is any thats if u ever ran out of gas before should do that ever time u run out a strong spray means its good low or no spray its bad

I removed the injector and fuel regulator assembly from the motor all in one piece, and left the electrical lines attatched in an attempt to see if the injectors were working. I attempted to start the van...


Yes, if everything is still connected properly, except that the injectors are no longer seated int he valve head, then you should see little spurts of gas coming from them when the engine turns over.

Be aware though, that it might not be your fuel injectors that are the problem. You need to finish checking the rest of the car before making that assumption.

Once you know the injectors aren't firing, you need to check the fuel filter and the fuel pump to make sure the gas is getting from the tank to the injectors.

You should have a fuel filter located on the passenger side of your car near the gas tank. Follow the gas lines under the car to find it. It is good to change it anyways, but you can check to see if gas is coming from the tank to the filter by removing the rear line

** BE CAREFUL, Gasoline is EXTREMELY irritating to the eyes and skin, and it WILL come out when you remove the line from the filter***

If it is coming from the tank to the filter you don't have to check your pump. Then replace the rear gas line, and remove the front gas line going to the engine and make sure the filter spits out gas while the engine turns over as well.

If there is no gas getting to the fuel filter, you will need to check your fuel pump, which should be located inside the gas tank. You can check it by getting under the car while you have a friend turn the key to the "on" position, but not starting the car. Do this 4 to 6 times to make sure you hear a little "Click, woosh" type sound that lets you know the pump is triggering.

If you have gas coming from the tank, through the filter and it is still not coming through the injectors, then you will need to rebuild your fuel injectors.

This is not hard to do, and consists mostly of changing the little gaskets in the injectors. But be aware that there are lots of small parts and the job cannot be rushed. Also be aware that lumina fuel injection systems are very sensitive. Make sure to disconnect your battery cables before removing the injectors from the system.

theres a schrader valve on the fuel rail it where the injectors are press in valve stem it will spray gas if no gas check fuel pump operation start with fuses and relays also check for plugged fuel filter which is inline with fuel line in back of car in front of fuel tank

Engine not getting fuel


When you turn the key on, have someone listen near the fuel inlet (where you pump your gas) to ensure that the fuel pump is running properly. If there is a buzz noise, or a hum, the pump is running and priming the fuel system.

If that is true, find a fuel pressure gauge and install it on the schrader valve on the fuel filter or injector rail, then turn the key on and check the pressure on the gauge. It should read more than 20 PSI.

If it does not, you may have a clogged filter or a plugged line between the pump and filter/rail.

She cranks, then catches but will not stay lit. acts like there is no fuel, but there is fuel at the discharge side of the filter


you need to know how much fuel is actually getting to the injectors. if it's throttle-body injected you should be able to observe a basically uniform conical fuel spray from below the injectors in the throttle body. if multiport injected, you can't see injector spray, but you can attach a fuel pressure gauge to the schrader valve in the fuel rail to see if the fuel pump is putting out adequately. if you don't have a gauge, my favorite redneck method (this is technically a bad idea, so please use all common sense if you do this...no smoking, no open flames, keep all spark plug wires attached, etc.) is to depress the plunger on that schrader valve w/ a small screwdriver for about half a second; if you get pretty wet w/ gas then your pump's probably ok, but you might have a problem where the injectors aren't getting the proper signal from the computer

Ran out of gas now won't start


Depress shrader valve on fuel rail and see if pump primed,If primed take air snorkle from throttle body of and use carb cleaner to gett running,Some one can keep giming short burst or cleaner to thottle boby inlet till air gets out of system.Have seen this before.Air trapped in injectors.

On 1999 4.0 Explorer, engine turns over but does not start.


An engine needs three things to run : Fuel, Compression and Fire. Check to make sure you are getting fire to the spark plugs. The fuel pressure regulator on the injector rail may be bad. There is a schrader valve on the injector rail, check to see if there is fuel there. It is a valve like a tire valve, depress it slightly to see if there is fuel there.
