Incase you can't here goes. Clock wise. Power steering, altenator, idler pulley, air con, cranck, tensioner, water pump back to power steering. Little space and quite tricky to get belt over all the pulleys without it popping of somewhere. I also have a problem with the belt supplied by spare shops. 6pk2100, its to small. at least on mine.

P1296 Problem(vw jetta 2001 wolfsburg edition)

There is a common fault with the cam belt driven waterpump on VAG engines as they use a plastic water-drive. The water-drive on the pump shaft breaks up or free and no longer circulates the water. Replace water pump.

I took my 2005 Chev. Malibu in for an oil change and now it is making a loud noise from the engine. they say its the water pump? is that possible?

  • Hi, I can help.
  • When your water pump goes bad it will begin to grind. I had one I let got far to long and it sounded deafening when I opened the hood. You can open your hood and listen and see for yourself. The water pump is on the belt line, left side under the hood, last pulley toward the rear.
  • Now if your asking can an oil change effect the water pump? No, not at all. Water pumps go sporadically.
  • It would be odd that you heard no noises before the oil change and now the water pump is loud enough to take notice after the oil change. The bearings usually go a little slower than that.

  • I would be interested in some more of the details to this. And what your overall concerns are. I'd be happy to further. help. Otherwise get a second opinion on your cars condition.

  • Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa.

Regards, Tony

Make Sure Your Adjusting is loose and your Belt correcly sitting on the Sleave From the Bottom of the Cranck Pully I See So Many People Re-ajust belt then When Star Engine Belt Broke ...So That Why I insist Sorry For That ... Then check all pully for belt sitting
Slowly Adjust Belt Till it Safe ..Then Turn Engine by Putting A extension Rachet then turn Main Crank Shaft Slowly Complite turn If the belt stay on correcly ..Then Start engine then stop Check again For Belt Position if it Ok ..Your car it fix ... Good Luck

I recently had my timing belt replaced and now it continues to run hot. When it does the over flow container is bowling hot and steaming over profusely. What could be the problem?

dont think the fault is associated with the timing belt renewal ,more like a case of investigate to see whats wrong ,like a water pump impeller loose on the drive shaft ,sticking /jammed thermostat

The large belt that goes over several pulleys is not broken, the huge round thing attached to a rod broke off, there are no screws , it would have to be welded or replaced. I need to see a picture to show...

Hello srmlj: My name is Roger and I will help you. From what you described I would think either the water pump shaft broke or the belt tensioner broke. Attached is a belt diagram that lists the components that te belt runs. Should you need further help please just ask. Please rate the answer. This way I know it was helpful.
