Question about 2005 Chevrolet Silverado

Turn switch on (motor not running) oil pressure gage goes to 90, and stays there fater the start up. is this the sender?

There is a short to the vehicle ground somewhere between the instrument cluster and the sender unit.

1995 dodge V10 185000 miles. When you start it you don't have oil pressure and at an idle it won't go up. rev the engine 15 to 20 sec. oil pressure go up to 40 lbs. and stays there even at idle.


I would install a test mechanical gage on the engine (remove sender and install there) and see if the oil pressure really is low when it is started.

Shut down on low oil pressure.


check oil level if good possible need oil change --filter collapse, check valve malfunction in filter,---sludge ,oil sender bad ,screen (certain vehicles have a screen in under sender)clogged -some vehicles when started switch over to the oil circuit to stay running if oil pressure problem then shuts off to protect motor

Try using a cheap mechanical oil gauge to make sure you do have oil pressure. If you do, something is preventing the senders from making ground to the engine. Are you using tape or sealer on sender threads? DON"T. the threads are the ground for the sender.

I;ve lost oil pressure the needle stay's down while driving, is the oil pump bad or going bad? is it located in the oil pan or the front of the 4.6L MOTOR?


If the needle is staying down and the motor is not knocking then the gauge is probably bad. If you run the engine with no oil pressure, then it will not last long. It will start knocking and ruin the engine. But yes the oil pump in in the oil pan. There is also a oil pressure sending unit that could be bad. It is located on the back of the engine.

Check gages light coms on and the oil presure gage gose down when engien is warm and in drive or revers


Replace your oil pressure sender and see if the dash warning lights turn off. If after changing the oil pressure sender you still have oil pressure warning lights on, you may have to replace your oil pump in your oil pan.

Oil gage drops to 0


You may have a bad oil pressure sending unit. The kit they are talking about, I believe is a rebuild kit, not the entire pump. Usally the kit consists of a couple rotors and seals. You would take the old parts out the oil pump housing, and install the new ones. But you want to make sure that all the clearances are within specs. I'd try the sending unit first.

03 gmc envoy with 5.3 140000 miles. Oil pressure reading fluxuates between 0 and 40. When problem first started pressure read 80. When vehicle was new it stayed at midpoint (40) vehicle has plenty of oil....


There may be a loose wire or the gauge or sending unit may be going bad. The first thing I would do is to hook up a temporary oil pressure gauge, not using the old one at all. With this watch gauge while driving and see what readings you get. If the readings still jump around you have a pump that is getting weak and failing, If that is the case the pump should be replaced, but with high milage you may consider rebuilding the entire engine. If the readings stay normal start checking for a loose wire at gauge or sender. Then check sender, then gauge and replace as needed.

Fuel pump not staying on 1993 k1500 350


Some GM products also incorporate the oil sender switch into that circuit for fuel pump, so that in case of an accident, engine shuts off, oil pressure drops, in turn, shuts off power to fuel pump. May be worth a look at what your getting for oil pressure, as well as checking switch/sender.

This is most likely a sending unit problem or a poor ground to the guage, try the sender first.
