Question about 1988 Ford F 150

1988 Ford F150.. When I give it gas, it hesitates for a couple of seconds &, all the sudden, it acts like it catches up & I get too much gas at once. It's killing me in gas mileage

The problem is most likely a dirty or malfunctioning Intake Air Control Valve, which is located on the throttle body assembly and should be cleaned every year or two as regular maitenance.

I got a 1988 ford f-150 4x4 302 engine it idles good but when your driving it hesitate and stalls.


I had this problem also and it turned out to be related to the cold start system. cant remember the part name but it was causing the hesitation problem.

1995 F150 bucking and hesitating


look at the EGR valve.it should move freely..listen for hissing sound of an air leak,from the intake manifold...with that kind of mileage,it is likely .check the wiring on all the sensors,the map ,air flow,coolant temp,and the idle air speed controller on the throttle body.
