You can drive the car during the summer, your radiator cools the engine. Today's cars are not air-cooled engines, they are water-cooled.

What weight oil to use in the summer in a 2003 pontiac grand am

heavier oils are fine in warm summer months, 10W30 or 10W40-
all cars ran on these oils summer or winter for years. Newer vehicles are designed for 5W oils and you should use a 5W oil for them in the winter months

Changed the oil put 20/50 now car is getting hot is because of oil?

I would imagine the recommended oil is 5w-30. 20w-50 is too thick.

After the engine warms up. the oil pressure light comes on and the gage drops off . when i accelerate it returns to normal.

Sounds like the motor has a lot of miles on it. You can try switching to a higher grade of oil. Instead of 5W-30 use 20W-40 or even 20W-50. You may even try a single viscosity oil like straight 40W in the summer.. If you used Slick 50 or some other oil treatment like that. It will reduce the friction and reduce the oil pressure giving you these kind of readings also. I like Slick 50 but only in newer to medium mileage motors.
Good Luck.

Ask about the type of oil-speed Kia Optima 2007 - USA MANUFACTURE

I am not sure how you question is worded, but the type of oil for that car is either 5w-30 for the summer or if you are looking for better heat in the cold you can use 10w 30 either weight will not hurt the car. You owners manual will tell you as well what is "recommended" but I usually use those two weights for winter and summer in mine.

Cadillac 1989 oil change What is the best type of oil to use on an 1989 Cadillac Sedan De Ville?

Castrol 20w-50 in summer and 10W-40 in winter, is best in my opinion.
It is high detergent, to remove sludge.
The thinner oil, like 5W-30 is only for better mileage, but cause piston and camshaft wear.

Chevrolet cavalier 2000 oil engine

Generally 5w 30 is what is recommended on the cap for most vehicles. I always tend to use 10w 30 in the summer and 5w 30 in the winter because 5w 30 is not as thick or viscus as 10w 30. Always use what is recommended by the manufacturer for the best results. This vehicle will take 5 quarts with a filter change, or 4 1/2 without. Also the filter is very tricky as i have done this one many times. I loosen the filter then pass it through the frame and out the passenger side wheel well. I hope this helps!! Thanks!!

What motor oil weight should I be using on my 96 olds 88....we live where the winter temps can go as low as -10 F and as hot as 95F in the summer

5w 30 or 10w 30 during the winter. After an oil change... check your oil after 200-300 miles of use. Is the level the same? If so your weight is fine. If it drops, it's to light of an oil and your engine is now "drinking it" like fuel, move to a heavier weight. As far as Changing between winter and summer. Changing Oil weights is not bad for your motor so if the winter you go with 5w 30 and it works, great, shoot for the same during the summer. If it seems to "drink it" during the summer using this weight, go up to the next (10w 30)

That being said. Changing from natural oil, to synthetic, back to naturual , or vice versa... swapping back and forth between these KINDS of oil has been known to cause damage. so whatever weight you decide on, stick with one "type", natural or synthetic.

I grew up in wisconsin myself and it does make a big difference to what type of oil you use. in your vehicle 5w-30 is recommended however during the summer i use a 10w30 and in winter SAE30 this is in my experience the best way to maintain the performanced of your vehicle and keep the wear and tear to a minimum
