Question about 1988 Cadillac Sedan DeVille

1 Answer

Car will not start. When trying to start the car, the car will not turn over. I hear clicking sound to the interal fuse box. The battery is new, the starter is new. I checked all fuses, and all fuses good. I have a 2002 cadillac deville. Any suggestions? I am thinking about the Nuteral Safty Switch or the Ignition Switch.

Did you clean and test the battery cables, a new battery is worthless if the cables are defective and it isn't connecting to the car electrical system, if the rest of the car has power, horn blows light come on then a neutral safety may cause the issue also the factory anti-theft system may be at fault?? All these thing must be checked, there is no "magic bullet" SORRY! Use a factory service manual and do the no start no crank pin-point tests of the starting system, factory manuals are for sale on ebay all the time.

INGINE DOESn't START P1683

Depends on what are you hearing when you try to start. Does the Engine sound like it is trying to start, does the starter even spin? or when you turn the key you hear 1 click but all the lights and everything comes on? If you hear multiple clicks and your lights are dim, that means your battery is done. There are a few things you can check before spending a lot of money. First check to see if your battery is good, 2 check the battery terminals to make sure they are tight, 3 check the condition of the battery cables if they are old or rusty, try to replace them with new ones, they cost 8-10 bucks. 4 try to replace the starter relay in the engine fuse box, this costs 12 dollars usually. if none of these are the issue, then its either you starter solenoid or the starter motor has gone bad. I suggest instead of replacing the solenoid, replace the whole motor which comes with the solenoid.

the clicking that you hear is coming from the starter relay. sounds like your ignition starter switch or ignition lock cylinder is bad.

My fuse box is makeing a real fast clicking sound on a 2004 lincoln/navigator

Mine was a bad battery, it does not have the power to activate the solenoid switch for the fuse box, that is the fast cliking sound you hear, test your battery, hook it up to another battery or jumper cables.

2005 Ford Escape won't start but hear a clicking sound coming from fuse box inside car and from ignition switch when I turn key to start position

This sound is the relay, Is the battery new if more than 1 and 1/2 yrs. you need to replace your battery.
Is your engine cranking when start, if not, the battery need to be replace.

I have a 2005 Tahoe with 43,000 miles and it will not start. It is not the battery. When you turn on the key all it will do is click and all light will come on.

Most likely the battery--even though you say no

If the battery is new ,then the solenoid on the starter
or the starter it's self

I was driving out of a parking lot and the engine just quit and now it won't start back up, it just cranks

If it cranks strong then it's probably not the battery/alternator/starter. Check the battery terminals to make sure they're clean. Cars need 3 things to start and run: fuel, spark, and compression. If it's just cranking it might be the fuel filter and/or pump. Could also be a fuel pump or PCM fuse or relay. Check your manual to find the locations of those in your fuse panel or in the fuse box under the hood. When you turn the key to on, before trying to start it, you should be able to hear the relays clicking. If you put a finger on it you should be able to feel it click (you'll need a friend for that). You should also hear the fuel pump pressurize when you turn the key to on before starting. It sounds like a humming sound that lasts about 3 seconds. If the relays don't click, that's probably you're problem. And if they do click and you can't hear the pump, then you'll probably need to replace the fuel pump and filter. If you hear the pump pressurize then you probably have electrical or spark problem. Hope that helps!

You can hear clicking in both fuse boxes when trying to start car

has the battery been tested? sounds like low battery voltage, the diode would not be the cause most likely.

Turn key and wont start 05 2500 silverado

This sounds like a weak battery or corrosion on the battery cable connections. The sound you hear is the relay and not the cylinoid.

Same 1991 w/starting problem

open the door and listen for a click from under the car (starter solenoid). If you hear that click, along with the one coming from
the glove compsartment(starter relay), it's the wire between the starter solenoid and the relay...If you only hear the one click from the glove compartment( it's actually in the passengers door pillar), it's the starter relay ($15)
