Do you hear the pumps run when key is in the run position? There should be a relay for the fuel pumps. However check and see if you have spark, have your ignition module tested, most parts stores can test them. Also check the ignition switch and make sure it is operating properly and not needing to be replaced.

Have you checked the control switch that powers each tank ? Some models use a mechanical selector valve and others use an electrical switch to control which tank is being used. Both tanks run off of the same fuel pump relay.

Location of fuel pump on 1988 Ford F350 460 engine

there could be 2. one is in the tank, this one is there for sure. the other is in the frame rail ahead of the switching valve,if you have 2 tanks.Otherwise look for a cylinder with fuel lines and 2 wires.the fittings on inline fuel pump might take a special tool, they will look like a bell.that tool can be bought at parts store, should be under $15.

if the fuses and relays are good then have you check the dash switch, you may have to check the wiring(powers)from the pump back through the system until you find were you have lost power.

I have a 1988 Ford F250 with the 460 engine and duel tanks it is factory fuel injected.....the front tank ran out of gas so I switched it to the rear tank( the same as many times before) the truck died and...

The fuel pump relay and the oil pressure switch as well. The oil pressure switch runs power to the fuel pump when you first start it
When the oil pressure reaches operating range the relay takes over
They are both inexpensive so replace both of these parts to be safe and kill two birds with one stone. If one goes out the other will soon enough

OK, guessing you know your truck. Without a pressure switch the pumps would run all the time the ignition is on. do they run ok without pumping? (pull one out of the tank). Do you have a relay that the tank selector switch activates? Most cars run the hot lead active, and the pumps run by applying the return lines. Your problem could be in the wiring from the pump back to the negative.

No power at fuel pump or crash switch

OK, you may have a dedicated pump for each tank, if so; DOES THE OTHER TANK WORK? If so, you have a problem with the switching system or second tank pump. You may have been testing the electrical, but remember: even a pump that works does not pump gas of there is a broken rubber feeder hose inside the tank. I would consider dropping the tank taht does not work and checking the pump and filter inside. Make sure key is on and test (usually the gray wire). Good luck.
