F250 Diesel will not start cold . Has power to glow plugs for short time ,but will not start 1986 modle.

Hello philkatkiele: My name is Roger and I will help you. First thing you need to check is the glow plugs. They will need tested individually. Un plug all 8 glow plugs. Take a test light and hook end to the positive battery cable. Touch opposite end of test light to the terminal end of the glow plug. The test light should light. Touch all 8 glow plugs. Ant that do not light are bad and will need replaced. If glow plugs are burnt out then the controller will flash wait light to early or very fast. The wait light should be on for approximately 10 seconds. If al glow plugs check ok then I would suspect the glow plug controller as the problem. Also if the temperature out side is below 40 degrees the truck should be plugged in. This will help to make the engine start easier. Should you need further help please just ask. Please rate the answer as this way I know it was helpful. Thank You for using Fix Ya. Roger

Glow plug light coming on at low speed not long after start

their is a unit that times the amount of time the heater plugs are energised ,its a complete unit so its not cheap but its easy to change ,its all transistorised so you have a warning light fault ,most likely not worthwhile to bother repairing it just ignore it till it packs up completly .And as for callng the AA ,well you might as well pray to odin or allah and get a better answer .The AA is only any good to tow you home ,other than that??¿' all the best mechanics work for commercial fleet companys and whats left work for the council /co op/ dealers then the left overs who cant get a job end up you know where .the best mechanics get out and open a spares shop,MOT station or train for other things in the uk because of the social stigma of the fact that you work with your hands and end up covered in black grime (phrase grease monkey)

Turbo lag and lack of power

Hi,
This is the second Vw I have responded to in a fortnight.
Your lack of power I presume always happens when the glow plug light illuminates?
This is because it is causing over combustion to vaporised diesel, I would be looking in the Glow plug timer and relay, as for Turbo lag, I run a E34 6 cyl Bmw Diesel and the Turbo only kicks in around 2,500ish so maybe yours is a little tired or in need of a check up?
Hope this helped,

Coil light flashing

Hi Robert
From the brief description of your problem I'm guessing your vehicle is a Diesel? as the light you refer to sounds like the Glow Plug warning. When you turn on the ignition from cold the light comes on for around 5 to 10 seconds and then you start engine Yes?
If the light is coming on after vehicle is warmed up the glow plugs will upset the combustion and ruin your performance, so I would be looking at glow plug timer fault.
Hope this FixYa's problem!
