Question about Kia Rio

1 Answer

05 kia rio, just rebuilt, get 325 knock sensor error code and 301 #1 misfire code. Timing marks on cams and crank are aligned, new NGK plugs gapped at 0.04 in, new plug wires, appears with good spark, new knock sensor in. Runs great, good power, maybe just a little rough at idle. Does code 325 mean I have a knock problem or that there's a problem in the knock sensing system. Also there appears to be some dark residue on top of the pistons. There is 200 miles on rebuild at this point. Error light only comes on after driving a few miles, shutting off engine, then driving again. Thanks.

The connections seem to be good for the cam and crank sensors and no error codes come up for them.

    thank you very much.

P0301 Is a misfire on # one cylinder and P0325 is a knock sensor code . The knock sensor has a lot to do with spark advance . The so called knock is a spark knock from the plug fireing . If i were you at this point i would check the crankshaft pisition sensor . that along with the camshaft pisition sensor and the knock sensor control this system Although it could be a fuel issue a cloged filter or a week pump . You say the engine has recently been rebuilt so i also wouldn't rule a bad connection at one of these points on a connector . So try the ckp sensor it sounds like it could solve problem

Sorry i haven't got back to you soner . Some times codes like knock sensors can be exceptions to the rules . You say the vehicle runs fine . The knock sensor plays a big part in the spark advance but its a funny sensor its whats called pizoelectric and this means it transmits less voltage when it is viberating from the spark knock then when the knock is not accuring . But this is a fast cycle like a duty cycle . P0301 is a misfire on # 1 cylinder its not randum and P0325 is the knock sensor but it may not be a problem that you have to worry about . Wonce again check electrical connectors to the system but if you have no power loss during exceleration then you likely don't have a problem and its a false reading through your PCM or VCM and i wouldn't worry to much unless you start getting other codes that are in the engine timeing system like crank cam or electronic ignition coil sensors and have a loss of proformance in general

I thought i lost the timing belt. It stalled like it. but its all good just wont start

Did you crank it over or try to turn the crank shaft and see it the cam/s turned. After that look at the crank sensor. Have the codes read first.

Icant get my 2001 kia rio in time after changing my timing belt

Your going to have to take the belt back off and line up your marks. The crank, oil pump, cams, etc. all have marks that need aligned with marks on the block. If they are not all lined up you will never get it timed any other way. Also I hope you made sure to block the cams when you removed the belt so they didnt turn on their own. I hope I could be of some help. Good luck

I have a 2004 kia rio manual trans. it will crank but wont start. the cam shaft pos. sensor code was read off the car. erased, then came back on after i tried to start the car again. we already replaced...

Did you reset the code after replacing the sensor? If it is accessable you may want to try to wiggle or hold the camshaft position sensor while cranking to see if this helps. On most of the vehicles I have had a problem with this sensor, most won't even crank when there is a sensor issue. So you may have another problem on your hands.
