I assume before you go to all that work that you've checked oil pressure etc to make sure it is a lifter problem only?

What engine?

If its a 3.1 liter try this first.

Get a can of Seafoam Motor Tune which is usually available anywhere that sells auto parts and sometimes walmart or target will also carry it in there automotive section.

With the engine cold and shut off add 1/2 of the bottle to the oil. Start the engine and let run until warm or until the lifter noise has gone away. If the lifter noise stops have the oil changed and add the other half of the bottle to the clean oil. If the noise does not stop it is not a lifter noise and lilley something more severe.

I have never had seafoam not fix this complaint on any GM V-6 or V-8!

Think i have a bad lifter in my 2000 buick lasabre,it was riding fine then all of a sudden its making a ticking sound on top! how difficult is it to replace the lifters?

Quite a bit of work--this is a pushrod engine. You need to remove the fuel rail and both upper and lower intake manifolds. Then both valve covers. Loosen the rockers until you can slip them off the pushrods. Pull the pushrod off the lifter to replace it. You may have to rotate the crankshaft a bit to get all the lifters up to where you can pull each one out. I can send more detailed instructions including torque values if you decide to do it.

In order to replace the serpentine belt on a 1994 Buick Skylark It appears that something has to be removed in order to remove the belt and replace it. What exactly has to be removed?

Nothing has to be removed. Just relieve the tension on the belt and it will come off. Find the tensioner pulley and pry it back. Look for a square hold where you insert a 1/2" ratchet. If you find none look for a way to pry it back. All you have to do is relieve the tension.

DEPENDS ON ENGINE , BUT MOST ARE PRETTY STRAIGHT FOWARD EVCEPT FOR THE MOTORMOUNT THATS IN YOUR WAY IN REMOVING THE BELT IT HAS A BUSHING AT THE BOTTOM WHEN YOU REMOVE THE BOTTOM RIGHT BOLT ON THE BRACKETT IT ALLOWS THIS BUSHING/SPACER TO FALL OUT LETTING YOU GET THE SERP BELT IN . GOOD LUCK

1994 Buick Skylark overheating

This vehicle uses a 195 degree thermostat. Standard operating temperature is about 210. If the vehicle was running 160 before then the thermostat was probably stuck open before.
