Car wont stay started unless foot on gas pedal

This could be a lot of things. IT could be the injectors or the fuel pump pressure, it could be the air intake, vacuum leak, etc.

Today My Landrover discovery 1996 tdi 300i just had its dashboard oil light suddenly failing to go off after starting. There is a funny sound at the top of the engine which has developed and the engine oil...

The oil light is pressure not level. The noise at top of engine is most likely a valve tap. The oil isn't circulation through engine correctly. The problem could be a bad oil pump. Be careful driving the car you could cause major engine damage.

Could my problem be fuel pump or carbuerator starting my 65 mustang it takes 3 to 4 times and i have to hold gas pedal down so it doesnt cut out after going it will still cut out when i slow down o

this sounds like the carburetor is dirty internaly and needs a rebuild to correct the problem.if it was the fuel pump it would not matter if you held the pedal wide open or not it would not pump mention plug wires but not mention spark plugs specifically.these are the items that are normally replaced when a tune-up is done.plugs, cap rotor, points, condensor, plug wires if needed, air filter, fuel filter, set point gap,set ignition timing, adjust carb mixture.

The gas pedal was pressed too much before starting and now it doesnt start and it smells like gas a lot

It is flooded. Sometimes difficult to start afterward

if this is the case you have to floorboard the gas pedal - which floods the carb more so and keep it there for two minutes. Then try starting it. If and when it starts - ease off the gas or blow the engine.

Hi, 1997 monte carlo that idles, but cuts out when put in gear, or at times while driving. 3.1 engine. 184,000 mi.

I don't have an answer for you, but I do have a similar or maybe even the same issue with mine. It usually starts up fine, and idles and runs fine when first started, however a few blocks or a few miles down the road it starts to cut out on me, sometimes dying completely... throwing it into neutral and pumping the gas usually will keep it running. This has gone on for a couple of months. When it does die, It normally will restart after sitting for a few minutes. Then a couple of weeks ago it died on me (normally this happens when slowing down and coming to a stop,) and would not restart even after a 1/2 hr, I had to have it towed. I periodically attempted to start it for over a week, it would turn over, but nothing more...then someone suggested that I disconnect the auto start box...It started right up. However, it still continues to cut out when slowing or stopping unless thrown into neutral and pumping the gas. It seems to run better on the open highway, than it does in town with all the slower speed and stop n go. I bought this car used about 6 mos. ago, and considering it's age and the 135K miles on it, I don't want to put any more money into it. I just read there is a recall on this vehicle for the fuel pump and additionally the fuel assembly, I'm not sure if this would be the answer to the whole problem or not.

I have recently bought an automatic td5 2004 with 73000 miles

Sounds like you may have a air leak on your fuel line if the pump is working a lot. Unless the ticking is as you turn the key in which case it's more of a click and is in fact the starter solenoid. May be best to re-post in the 2004 discovery section though as the 1997 is a 300-tdi and different animal all together.

Brake failure

Keep reservoir full while you are bleeding brakes. You have probably introduced air at some point.

Start at the furthest, give 2 pumps to pedal only before topping up. If possible - give the job of topping up to a competent helper.

If this resolves the issue, Please rate as Fixya! thanks.
