There two differant ones on your vehicle. The one that controls the stop lamps is located on the top of the brake pedal and is heid in place with a pin that slides through the pedal arm has a clip on one side that needs to be removed then the pin will slide out and the switch will come out . Unplug the connector and thats it you may want to get a new clip there a little tricky to get off with out bending it but the switch is 5 or 6 dollars and tests like a on off switch so its eighter its open or closed . The other switch is located above the first one mounted under the steering wheel to the bottom of the dash and controls funtions for the cruise control unit and shuts it off when the brake it applyed and is problably not the problem but if the first tests good you will have to look at that one to

2006 brake light will not go out

Light gets power from brake light switch/.May be switch got shorted an brake light getting non-stop power causing it not to turn OFF brake light.

Get the brake light switch checked. Check volt at brake light switch.

It can be faulty brake light switch causing the problem or its wiring short for switch.

I have a 2002 Ford Expedition and the brake light will not turn off. We do not use the e-brake. can anyone help with this problem?

Your stop light switch has failed. This is the switch operated every time you operate the brake
pedal. This switch fails in one of two ways - always open (brakes lights don't work), or always
closed (brake lights won't turn off).

To replace a stoplight switch, first determine what type of switch you have.

If you have an electrical switch mounted to the brake pedal in the passenger compartment:

* Unplug the wire connector at the back of the switch.
* Unscrew the switch.
* Replace with a new switch. Adjust the adjustment nut as needed.
* Plug the wires back in.

If you have a hydraulic pressure switch that is mounted in the brake master cylinder:

* Mark and disconnect the wires.
* Unscrew the switch.
* Screw the replacement switch in.
* Reconnect the wires.

Brake lights stick on

It sounds like the brake light switch down on the brake pedal is stuck and it needs replaced,Its got like a push button setup when you apply the brakes the brake pedal pushes the brake switch button in brake lights come on and when you relase the brake pedal the button on the switch comes back out and brake lights go out but if switch is worn out or sticking the lights will stay lit even when off the brake pedal so just replace the brake light switch down on the brake pedal.

03 ford ranger brake lights are inop even after bulb were replaced

You need to check the brake switch on the brake arm under the dash the arm is screwed in and gets loose over time, the switch is $15.00 dollars and is easy to replace, with the wires pulled off of the switch unscrew the switch counter clockwise till the switch comes out then replace it in reverse order screw in till the plunger pushes against the brake arm, when you press on the brake pedal the brake light should come on, this is assuming you have checked the brake switch fuse.

Changed fuse and brake light still doesnt work

Did you check for voltage at the light socket before replacing the fuse?
Was the fuse blown? If so, you need to find out why it blew. (fuses do not blow for no reason) If not, why did you replace it?

Did you check for voltage in and out of the brake switch? Brake switch failures are common on Dodge trucks. There should be voltage going in, but none coming out the other side until the brake pedal is depressed. If there is voltage going in, the fuse is not blown. If there is still no voltage on the other side when the brake pedal is depressed, then the brake switch is your problem-child.

The next step is to check for voltage in and out of the multifunction switch. (turn signal switch) The brake lamp voltage is switched on and off by the turn signal switch. Failure of the turn signal switch can cause a "no brake light" symptom. This is a common failure among most makes of vehicles. This failure can often be verified by stepping on the brake pedal and wiggling the turn signal switch. If the brake lights flicker on and off while doing this, the mutifunction switch needs to be replaced.

Brake light stays lit

HI, this will occur if the brake switch is unstable. this switch should be located under the dash in close proximity of the brake pedal shaft. replace this damaged switch asap.
