How do I adjust idle on 2009 Toyota Corolla 1.8 liter

There are no provisions for adjusting the idle . The computer through the use of the IAC valve - idle air control controls the idle . There is a base idle set at the factory an should not be changed or messed with . What idle problem are you having ? low or high Could be IAC valve or air passages plugged . High idle the throttle plate could be gummed up an sticking ! If you were to change the base idle you cause check engine light problems .

My 4 cylinder 318i e46 bmw starts ok but as soon as it reaches idle rpm it shuts down. the only way to get it to run is to rev the engine to 3,000 to 4,000 a couple of times and then it seems to settl

The Ferrari Mechanic was correct, but you have not yet found the valve. The idle control valve is a small air passageway that bypasses the main throttle plate. You did not say what year of vehicle, but I am assuming it has Fuel Injection since the idle control valve was mentioned. Remove the Throttle body and clean it and all the little air passages in it. Then try. The throttle body is the apparatus between the large rubber air hose and the intake manifold.

Is there a such thing as a idle airflow control cylonoid?

year, make, model, engine size?

If you have an older jeep you will have an IAC (idle air control) valve. This is what controls engine speed at idle. It will be mounted to the side of the throttle body. It will be round, usually silver, and have about 4 wires going to it.

Newer jeeps will have whats called drive by wire. The throttle is controlled by an electric motor that receives inputs from the PCM to control idle speed and acceleration. There is no mechanical linkage between the gas pedal and the throttle on these vehicles and they no longer need an IAC.

The fuel pump was changed, now it idles high.

The idle speed is controlled by an Engine Control Module (ECM).
It needs to be put on a computor to be checked.
The idle air valve provides the control for constant idle speed. In order to set the correct air valve opening to achieve constant idle speed, the fuel injection control unit uses information from the air mass meter, A/C switch, throttle valve switch and the ignition control unit (RPM signal) to regulate the output current to idle air valve. This means, there is alot of things that can make the idle speed go up or down...Hope this was some help to you??

My 04 cavalier the rpm goes up by them self when you are just siting there what does that mean and how do u fix it

that can be caused by a vacuum leak, a bad idle air control valve or a bad throttle position sensor. If you do not have a check engine light yet, you probably will soon enough. All can be fixed without spending a fortune by a decent mechanic.

In my 2000 Saturn SL1 I am experiencing very high idle (2000 rpm warm - higher cold). I have cleaned the throttle body and the idle air control valve with no improvement. What next, replace the idle air...

You could try replacing the idle air control valve but I would obtain one from a local salvage yard, its cheaper and you are not certain if thats the problem, another thing i would check is your intake manifold gasket where it meets the cylinder head, if tha gasket is cracked or leaking it will allow excess air to enter the engine and make it idle higher, the easiest way to verify this is get a can of carb and choke cleaner and spray it all around the intake gasket area, if the engines idling characteristics change drastically then the gasket is bad and needs to be replaced if theres no change in the idle I would start looking for vacumm leaks and the idle control valve issue, which you specified.

2000 Camry Starts but dies down right away

Hello

I just worked on this problem a couple of days ago. If the motor is a 3.0 liter. The idle control valve is located at the bottom of the throttlebody assembly right below the bore for the throttle butterflies..What usually causes this valve to go bad is the mechanical part of the sensor sticks as it becomes sludged or carboned up. Manufacturer claims that the valve cannot be cleaned and should only be replaced....It's a high dollar repair to replace this sensor as your engine coolant flows through this electrical valve. The valve idles the car fast when cold, as the antifreeze gets hot the valve drops the idle down.....I have successfully cleaned several of these valves and cured the dying problems...
First remove the air filter top cover and the tubes that connect to the throttlebody. In the right throttlebody you will see a port right before the butterfly. Under the throttlebody you have a black plastic sensor with a 2 wire terminal. Remove the 2 phillps screws and pull off the electrical part of the valve. you will feel a magnetic pull while removing. Remove slowly and catch the black sealing oring, and there will be a metal washer also.. The shaft that is exposed is the mechanical control of the valve. Rotate the shaft and it should feel sticky if bad..Using a throttlebody spray cleaner spray into the small square port of the right bore, rotate shaft and spray until stickfree.....Reassemble
