Question about 2007 Toyota 4Runner

1 Answer

Hi... I have a 2007 Toyota 4-runner. I just recently noticed that my gas mileage has signifcantly decreased. I used to get about 350 miles on a full tank of gas. This last tank I only got 290 miles. Do you happen to have any ideas on what could possibly be wrong?

Thank you for your prompt response. When you say tune-up, what does it all entail? Do you have any idea of the cost for a tune-up?

Wow, where do we start. So approx 4 gals of gas difference. When was the last time you checked you milage for a whole tank. Probably nothing changed with the truck, but could be anything from tire inflation. low pressure gets worse gas milage, weight in the car can adversly effect milage, wind on the road has a big factor. The condition of the spark plugs, injectors, engine timing, and the way you accelerate all effect milage. Can you be sure no one is stealing gas from you, this would fit in a 5 gal can. A complete tune up is the place to start. Check your tires and get rid of any extra weight in the car.

One more quick note. If you want, you can have the car put in a test at a dealer. They can diagnose any unusual issues, but they aren't cheap either. If you think that this is getting worse have them run the diagnostic for you.

A tune up includes, new plugs, wires, cleaning throttle bodies, checking masss air flow sensor. Cleaning air box and filter. Check timing and spark, along with fuel injectors.
A thourough tune up with the tech taking time to make sure everything is working and running correctly will cost between $100. and $200. dollers depending on the shop and parts.

Toyota 2006 4 Runner: What is the recommeneded milage schedule for replacement of the standard factory installed spark plugs?

Toyota recommends 5ys or 100k miles which ever comes first. As a professional mechanic, I recommend this at 3yrs or 80K miles for better performance and optimal gas mileage. Also having the spark plugs on the motor 5yrs/100k may lead to plug seizing to the aluminum heads.

2007 Toyota 4 runner transmission filter and fluid change??

at 50,000 miles there is really no need. i would wait and save up that money and do a transmission flush 7- 10 quarts of toyota f-type fluid can be costly but a flush removes all of the fluid and garnish along with any fine shavings (normal wear and tear) out of the tranny and replaces it with new clean fluid. normal intervals would be at about 80-100,000 miles. you should be able to find preventative maintenance schedules in your owners manual. if not any repair facility would have it on their computer.

Poor gas mileage on my jeep liberty

Did this happen overnight or was it a gradual loss? Did you do any kind of repair before you lost the gas mialage? Is there a check engine light on or did it come on and go off? Did anything weird happen before the jeep got bad gas mileage? It's hard to diagnose a problem like this without actually touching the car.
Any other info might help me steer you in the right direction.

Jeep liberty gas mileage

to increase gas mileage make sure you keep on top of tire air pressure you can also have your tires filled with nitrogen instead of air also a K&N air filter does wonders and is good for lifetime worth every penny. another smart move is to use a fuel system cleaner regularly Lucas makes great products for this try local parts store.

My 1991 Toyota 4-runner gas mileage decreased from 21 to 18 mpg

Sounds like you have no Torque converter lock up function. The wiring connector for T/C lockup solenoid must have been disturbed or the solenoid is bad. No lock up will make a 200 RPM difference in high gear
