    Your solution was very simplistic,in my view.upon consulting my service manual it directs me to the twilight sensor module.what if the focus was on this module?could it be the twilight sensor module?could the module be sending bogus data to the onboard computer?can i count on your electronic/computer expertise to solve this glitch?

  • deucedeluxe Aug 03, 2008

    pierre- i don't have"daylight" or "remote start".continue with analysis

  • deucedeluxe Aug 03, 2008

    no solution so far,lights still flashing on and off,when car is parked,ignition off.try again

  • deucedeluxe Aug 03, 2008

    Lights still cycle randomly,it seems erratic at best ,what's going on ,or should GM solve this situation?

  • deucedeluxe Aug 03, 2008

    Come on there has to be some intelligent life out there. For the lights to trigger on and off randomly in broad daylight, one would think that this is not the first time that something like this has happened. However it is news to me, but I don't work on car's every day either.

Turn off the twilight, if problem disappear replace, twilight sensor module. If it is not twilight sensor module scan your car EC, this is not semplicistic, if there is a short, or a faulty electronic part returning error , the computer will give you back the right error code.
To scan car computer buy a code reader or go to a garage.

It sounds like there is an immobilizer wire harness malfunction ; Try first unpluging inspect and or clean contacts or ground connection, and see if any difference.

Hi,

Based on your description, a couple of possibilities:

  • twilight sentinel - composed of light sensitive photocell, a lamp control module and a time delay control with an on/off switch. this works in conjunction with and is in parallel to the standard headlight/parklight switch;
  • headlight/parklight switch itself;
  • alarm system (security) which indicates alarm is engaged through flashing of parklight and/or other indicators.
Initially, pls try:
  • switch twilight sentinel to OFF;
  • spray WD40 through the keyhole;
  • wiggle the connectors to the headlight switch and the ignition switch;
  • turn OFF your alarm to observed.
Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

    Hi again,

    Have you tried setting the Twilight Sentinel to Minimum?

  • Louie  Role
    Louie Role Aug 03, 2008

    If setting the Sentinel to Min/OFF is not corrective, pls check the two modules underneath the dash. There would be relays inside that control the park and head lights. These two are the lamp control module and a time delay control.

Sounds like there is a short somewhere. you need to start checking things with a multi meter, could be a bad switch. I would recommend picking up a factory service manual for your vehicle off of ebay. If you need any further assistance let me know.
Thanks,
lee

    Yes it is very possible that it is that sensor. I can only guide you through the possibilities. Unless I am there doing it myself I can't make any guarantees. I always do my best and follow through to the end and will provide you with the best solution. Though you have already rejected my help I hope you will reconsider, and accept and rate accordingly.
    Thanks,
    Lee

    Have you tested the unit and made sure its in specs or try switching it out with one from the junkyard. Have you checked anything with a multimeter yet?
    Thanks,
    Lee

Parking brakes light on for oldsmobile Aurora 2001

If the cable is not too corroded you can sometimes lift it by hand so that it will trip the parking brake switch and turn off the light.I have had to replace the parking brake assembly on both of my Auroras to get the system functioning again. The cables corrode just where the first cable comes through the body and connects to the next intermediate cable. The entire brake pedal assy. needs to be replaced ($65.00) for the part.

1999 aurora the fog lights and tail lights turn on by themselves at any time withouy the key in the iginitions

sounds like a problem with a relay in the lighting, try setting your E-brake as some vehicles with auto-lights have a parking brake switch that deactivates the auto lighting.

just a thought

Your ignition switch is bad, soon you will go out to start it and it won't start.These cars are known for bad ignition switches and ignition lock cylinders.

Parking lights will not shut off but the headlamps do

There is a "perimeter lighting" feature that keeps the lights (parking & backup) on for a period of time when it is dark and you lock the car. Check the setting - ref owners manual DIC controls.

1998 Aurora. The headlights and parking lights flash on and off when the car if off and the keys are out. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sounds like maybe an alarm. My '92 LeBaron has a strange alarm. You have to lock & unlock the drivers door with the key to reset it. Sounds like a long shot but worth a try . check your owners manual to see if there may be another option to reset it if you have an alarm.
