WOnt run over - battery good - can turn it over but jumping the starter
MY son just bought a 1998 jeep wrangler he drove it home and then around the yard once and now it wont start - it wont even turn over PUtting the key in and turning it on - all the idiot lights come on - battery is good (have charge it) cables are good at battery cleaned connections etc He does have the doors off of it
I tried jumping the starter motor and sure enough she will turn over but then it wont start

Generally speaking, if the starter was dead it would not jump start.
Sounds like the key switch or the neutral safety switch.
You would need to know if the starter has power when the key is in the start position.
Yes it could be the starter, it could be the battery if the engine doesn't turn over, it could be a grounded power line to the starter. Even if the battery is showing proper volts it may not have the amperage to turn the motor over, it could be the solenoid itself. I recommend you 1. try jumping the vehicle. If the engine cranks when jumped but not without a jump then replace your battery. If not I recommend you get the Haynes repair manual on your vehicle for all of the troubleshooting and isolating steps.
The starter is most likely the problem,tap on the starter lightly with a hammer while trying to start the engine,dont get run over doing this it will take two people,if the engine starts,the starter needs replacing.
