Question about Pontiac Torrent

The oil cap will not come off. Cap is loose, but will only turn 3/4 turn. Do you "push down & turn"----- that isn't working either.

The oil cap is on so tight, I can not remove it to add oil. I tried pushing down on it, as I tried to turn, but it won't budge. Any suggestions?


Use a large pair of channel lock pliers to remove the cap. Once removed apply a bit of grease to the rubber oil ring on the cap before reinstalling

If your sure it is unscrewed, then pry it off or use a pair of pliers. Some of the click type caps sometimes have to be broken apart to get off.

Ford 5.4L 3 valve motor has vacuum in the oil pan and will not run with the fill cap off.


The only vacuum being pulled, is the hose from the valve
cover (PVC) hose ,I believe, to the throttle body area

The reason you have a crankcase vacuum so high on the other
valve cover & oil fill cap, is that air can't get in to replace the air
drawn in behind the throttle body

eg: you have no air coming in,find out why

I think the air in comes from the ducting around the MAF Sensor
area in a 1" plastic or rubber tubing to the cover where your fill cap is

My Lincoln is like that

I have been around 5.4 fords I just haven't googled a picture of yours,you can do that or look over your truck

The vacuum amount or flow rate is controlled by the PCV valve
hoses & system design,so you have no air coming in the other
cover or little,thus high crank case vacuum

That said-- what your doing is NOT a test & in some motors will set
a MIL Lamp & OBD Codes

Once the oil cap if off, you have an open hole for air to rush in & back to the pcv & intake,so leave it on when the motor is running

Opposite your theory

It dies because with the oil cap off, your letting in unmetered air
that goes into the intake,cylinders & out the exhaust & you loose
fuel trim control,as the oxygen sensors & pcm are confused

Today's vehicles work in Milli Seconds & only work within programmed parameters

My car has oil coming out oil cap of a saturn


Check for an egr system problem

Your not pulling a vacuum on the crankcase
& either have pressure in there or an issue
with the oil cap

The cap has to be on tight to pull a vaucuum,
just as a gas cap will set a light & codes as evap
system looses integrity

To ask about piston wear-- how would we know that?

You have to perform testing to determine those things,
such as a cylinder leak down test

Overheating...grand cherokee overland - new waterpump new thermostat and it is overheating still. Water does not seem to be flowing through. We loosen up the radiator cap and it cools back down.


It's probably air locked. This isn't uncommon when you do work on the cooling system. Simply leave the rad cap loose for a couple days while you drive. Keep the heater turned on as well. Check the rad for coolant level and keep it topped up and your temperature should settle down. Then tighten the rad cap. Hope this helps.

Oil cap ford fouces 2000 wont come off it just spins and clicks


Some oil caps are like prescription bottles. Push down slightly and turn the cap counter clockwise.

Top engine knock when first start engine. And knocking when 3/4 quart low oil. lht661@juno.com e-mail


It sounds like a weak lifter. When the oil is down 1/2 quart, add 1/2 of dextron ll instead of oil. This will help fill the lifter so it won't collapse again. Also look down the hole when you take of the oil cap and make sure it isn't filled with engine sludge. If you see some, get it cleaned out by a garage.

push down then turn anticlockwise.it clicks so that you cannot overtighten it.

I can't manage to open the petrol cap Is it to do with the central locking??


If its the lid cap)
just pull the gas tank lever,, and stick a flat head in the grrove where the locking cap is.. Pull the cap lever and pry with the screw driver at the same time.. It will pop open.. Chances are someone pushed the cap tohard inside and it locked in..

If its the cap on the petrol,, (UNDER THE LID),, spray around it with sime silicon oil or WD40,, (rust remover or a degreaser) let it sit for a few minuts then turn it off with a piece of cloth.. Push Down, pull up,, push down turn, pull up turn.. The rocking motion will loosen it..

How do you get the oil filter cap off to change the element?


I'm not sure why everybody is going to the oil filter canister system. Doesn't make my job at work easier.
You'll need this tool here: TOY640

Any other tool will crack the cap and make life go bad after that.
