Question about 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt

1 Answer

I have a 2006 Cobalt and I'm experiencing some problems with it. Suddenly, it's acting like there is an electrical surge going through it. When I'm stopped at a red light, the speedometer goes up to 120 and the radio surges and gets loud. I'm not even moving. Then when I go to take off, the car doesn't seem to want to go. If I hit the gas, the car cuts out and I have to let off the gas a few times before it goes normally. When I'm driving, all is fine.. it's just when I'm stopped that this happens. There are no dash lights on. Why is my car doing this and how do I fix it?

Chevy has a service recall on the cobalt this recall they will not send you anything about it only if you complain about it, The ecm is your problem go to your chevy dealer and talk to them about it and they should be able to help you. There is mileage conditions though not sure what the max mileage is but i believe it is around 55,000 to 65,000

2006 Cobalt LS Coupe Intermittent Starting Problem

sounds about right, probably is ignition switch, reason you don't get codes is because if power is'nt connecting to engine while problems occurs then ecm won't pick it up. you should have 2 ignition switches, (the lock cylinder and key switch, the other is the electrical, usually located under the dash, and commonly atttatched to the column close to the firewall, check connections first, it may just be a loose plug in connection

I have a 2006 Chevy Cobalt and I have read several posts that sound like the problem I am having. My car runs fine then the engine will start surging--the RPM guage will swing wildly from 500-2000 while...

i have an 06 cobalt with the same issue and when my engine light finally came on it showed up as evap system malfunctioning. This is for the emissions system. My code shown was P0440. This can be caused by a faulty or loose gas cap, a purge valve, a vent valve, or the evap canister. I am waiting on the purge valve to arrive now so should know if that takes car of mine in a week, but i have already replaced my gas cap and the problem is still there. Hope this helps you some

Power Steering

Yes your absolutly right.
I have a 2006 Cobalt and my power steering completly failed. And this isn't a cheap fix. A quote of over $700 for a steering column replacement because these cars run electronic steering. Unless your under warrenty start searching salvage yards for working steering columns.

Where to put steering fluit in the cobalt ls 2006

There is no place. The Cobalt has an electric power steering system. There is a bad problem with this car. My nephew had problems and when checking found out that there are way too many problems with this system. The entire steering column assembly has to be replaced. There is no recall issued on this for the Cobalt, but I heard that there was a similar issue recall for the Malibu. Hope this helps. I feel your pain!!

Front two speakers just stopped working.

I have an 05 Cobalt that just experienced the same problem. I had my door panels off and my speakers appear to be dead.

If you have a multimeter, you can pull the speaker out and test to see if you get resistance across the two terminals. It should say on the speaker what the resistance should be (most likely 4 ohms). If you get no reading, you most likely will have to replace the speaker.

You could also test for AC voltage on the speaker wires. When the stereo is on, and set to a reasonably loud value, you should get a few volts. If you don't get any reading at the door, it may be either the wiring or the stereo. To determine which it is, you will have to take readings at the stereo output.

Hope this helps.

I replaced the car battery in my 2006 chevy cobalt now the keyless entry doesn't work.

check all the fuses inside the car. the new battery could have surged and blew a fuse which would cause the key less entry sensor in the car to stop.
