This code is for EGR valve lift insufficient. This code is usually the result of a vacuum leak in the ER valve lines. It uses engine vacuum on a diaphram to open the valve. If the vacuum is leaking it cant open the valve to the desired position and trips this code. If the lines check out ok then you need to start investigating the electrical side of the valve but I am willing to bet it is a broken vacuum line.

CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON.

remove the EGR valve and clean the carbon from the port it is connected to, they are known to get clogged up, you may also have a bad egr valve.

99 acura code p1491

Code P1491 in Honda/Acura vehicles means insufficient EGR valve lift. Note - this is not the same as 0401 for EGR low flow when you have to clean EGR passage in the intake manifold. If code 1491 is not accompanied with 0401 - that could be faulty EGR valve itself. Try to reset the code, and if it will return soon - replace EGR valve. If, however you see both codes together - cleane the manifold passage before you replacing the valve.

My car turns off when i start slowing down or when im pressing on the break, i tested it and it gave me 2 numbers a P1491 and a P1456 my car is a 99 honda accord ex, a 4 door.

P1491 = Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Valve insufficient lift.

P1456 = Evaporative emissions (EVAP) control system leakage (fuel tank system).

Check the EGR valve for a failed vacuum diaphragm. Check the fuel filler cap to make sure it is the correct factory style, has a good check valve and is on tight.

2001 honda odyessy has the following trouble codes: P1491, P0401,P1739. It has also been turning over longer before starting and has cut off while in park and idling. What does this mean?

P1491= "exhaust gas recirculation valve insufficient lift."
P0401= "exhaust gas recirculation insufficient flow"
P1739= ""3rd clutch pressure switch" (automatic transmission code)

the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve is vacuum operated. there may be a vacuum line that is broken or leaking or become detached from the EGR valve. any vacuum leak will cause the engine to run lean, leading to poor starting and idle cut-off due to lean fuel fuel mixture.

The EGR valve has a vacuum diaphragm inside it. this diaphragm could be leaking. the EGR valve will need to be replaced if this is the case.

The P1739 code shows that a problem with the 3rd clutch pressure switch or the wiring leading to the switch has been detected. It may be an intermittent fault. Reset the trouble codes and drive for a while and see if this code returns. If so, check the wiring and switch operation of the 3rd clutch switch.

What is DTC code P1491? 1997 Honda Accord

hi, "EGR Valve Lift Insufficient Detected" is most often caused by a broken vacuum line going to the EGR valve. So I would check all the vaccum lines to be sure they are tight and not broken. If the vacuum lines are good, you will need to check the electronics that operate the EGR system. thanks

I HAVE A P1491 CODE ON MY 1998 HONDA ACCORD ERG

Code P1491 is EGR lift insufficient. It is usually accompanied by P0401. If you have a v6 Accord, there was a recall for the EGR port plugging. Check with your Honda dealer to see if your car is covered under that recall. If you have a 4 cyl, plan on replaceing the EGR. In addition, you need to clean the ports in the engine on the intake and exhaust sides of the EGR ports. To do this, spray some carb/choke//intake cleaner into the ports to saturate the black exhaust build-up. Later, jam a coat hanger or spare dipstick (or some long flexible metal rod) into the parts to break up the black deposits. When your rod passes through easily, spray more cleaner to pass it through. Reassemble and start the engine. It will run rough at first, so you need to give it gas pedal input to burn off the carb cleaner. You should be good to go.
