Generally, that's caused by the electric fan not coming on. Another less common cause is a partially obstructed radiator, either external or internal.

Okay, this tells me that the cooling system is working correctly, the car overheats when sitting due to the lack of the cooling fan not working and when driving the air flow through radiator acts like the fan so this tellls me the fans are not working, this is due to a bad coolant temp sensor or a bad fan, im not sure what type of car this is but start with testing the fan first, good luck.

If the engine temp rise while sitting at lights then you have an air flow through radiator problem. Electric fans not working or viscous fan hub is faulty. high heat except at speed may indicate an air lock in the cooling system or coolant level in the radiator. Check at radiator cap not the reservoir.

Sounds like the radiator fan isn't coming on. You don't need the fan on when you're moving, cause air is blowing into the radiator, but sitting still you need the fan or it'll overheat. This makes me think the fan isn't coming on.

i would check and make sure the cooling fan is operating,if not it will overheat sitting still.a thermostat will cause overheating whether or not it sits still or driving(more so when driving).the same if it has a bad water pump although it may circulate just enough coolant when driving to not overheat with air flow also adding a cooling effect.if you don`t have a leak then i would say the water pump is okay as they usually will leak before causing a overheat problem.make sure the cooling fan is working and the rad does not have anything stopping the air flow over the rad and is not stopping coolant flow in the rad.

My car overheats can't find the fan relay. help where is it?

Does it only overheat while sitting? Then the fan motor or relay could be bad. Just follow the fan motor wiring. It is probably in the relay block center.
The fans do not come on when car is in motion. Then thermostat is bad or coolant is bad or water is bad.
