Question about 1999 Chevrolet Astro

1 Answer

My 1999 Chevy Astro has a miss at low acceleration, but when you smash it to the floor, it takes off like a rocket (squeals rubber). It ran great when I replaced the distributor (6 months ago), but now if I don't mash the gas to the floor, it acts like it's gonna die. What could cause this?

When I replaced the distributor, I also replaced the wires, rotor cap, distributor cap and plugs. My code reader is not bringing up any codes. I suppose I was looking for someone to suggest that I replace the coil, but I'm open to any new suggestions.

The first thing to check is for bad sparkplug wires, this sounds like its misfiring, is the check engine light on? if the light is on then have the computer scanned for codes if there are codes then the code will tell you what cylinders are misfiring, i would also remove the cap and check it to make sure its still good and not wet or cross firing. the most common reason for this is mostlikely due to worn or arcing wires, start with that. good day.

Misses

Have you tried replacing the fuel filter? They're pretty cheap and easy to do and if they get clogged they can cause problems. If that doesn't work get a fuel pressure tester you can rent from parts stores like auto zone and you can test your fuel pump

missing is not always the plugs ,HT leads distributor . Most times it is from misfiring injectors and low fuel pressure.

1999 ASTRO VAN ACCELERATES WITH AC ON

It is perfectly normal for the idle speed to increase with the AC on. This is done to ensure that adequate coolant flow is available for the increased strain the compressor puts on the engine.

If the idle increase is too high, there is a safety problem. There is an idle adjustment that can be made to reduce RPM to factory specification when the AC is on.
