No puller needed, you will need to mark the shaft and the nut and count the turns so you can install the nut the same way or else you will change the pinion depth, theres a crush collra in the diiff and if you tighen it more then it was then you change the depth so mark it and mark socket with white out so you can count the turns. remove the driveshaft and then the yolk nut, next use a hammer to beat yolk off then remove the seal and install new seal. hope this helps.

To remove the yoke, you need to remove the nut on the end of the pinion shaft. When you do that, you MUST count the turns as it comes off, including part turns. You can do that by marking the housing and the nut and putting another marking on the socket in the exact same position. If you don't do that you will change the pinion depth of the gearset and cause it to fail. (nut needs to be put back on with the exact same number or turns)
The yoke most often comes off easily or with a light tap of a hammer. Make sure you put that back on exactly in the same position you found it as well. Don't allow the differential to turn after you take it apart and also, use a large pipe wrench to hold the yoke from turning when you put it together.
Don't forget to check the lube level when you have finished,.

How much will it cost to repair a GMC 2003 Sierra 1500 V6 Differential Seal that leaks? I live in Michigan

It is very easy to replace either the pinion seal or the cover gasket. To replace the pinion seal, remove the driveshaft and let it hang ( it shouldn't come out of the tranny). Remove the pinion nut and the pinion yolk ( may have to tap it with a hammer). With a screwdriver and hammer remove the seal,,then wipe the seal area clean. Take new seal and tap in with hammer and replace yolk and drive shaft.

I want to replace my pinion seal and i need the procedure to set the crush collar ,ive done many rears in the past , i just forgot. mostly 9 in fords and 12 bolt chevy. do u do 05 ram 1500 the same

It would be hard for me to tell you exactly, but I can tell you what will work. Being everything is all together and in the vehicle, you will need to do this by feel. With the wheels off the ground, the brakes can't be dragging, you have the seal installed, put the yolk and nut on, preferably with a half inch drive impact, run the nut up until it barley starts to get tight. Then take both hands and turn the pinion yolk, you need to tighten the pinion nut a little at a time until it starts to get a little hard to turn using both hands, If the brakes are rubbing, you wont get the right feel. If you can't turn that yolk with both hands, it is to tight.

1984 Toyota pickup leaking fluid where the drive line connects to the differential. Bought the rear seal. What is involved in replacing it.

tearing the rear-end apart, replacing that seal, you might as well have new bearings put in as well!
Also this is a more "advanced" repair, having to use plastigauge(or equivalent) to get your clearences EXACT!!!
Good luck

Changing rear axle seal on 78 ford f150. looking for diagram.

You probably have the 9 inch differential. If it is a rear wheel seal remove the tire and wheel assembly. Be sure to use a jack stand so you don't have the vehicle fall on you. Remove the 4 retaining bolts that hold the backing plate onto the housing. Pull the axle from the axle tube. It may be stubborn at removal. If it is the pinion seal remove the drive line. Remove the pinion nut that rests inside the yoke. Try to use an impact tool for easy removal. Once the nut is off the yoke willcome off. You may need a puller to help in removal. One the yoke is off remove the pinion shaft seal. Replace with a new seal. install the yoke and the washer and then the pinion nut. Re-torque the pinion nut to 150 foot pounds.

if your talking about the rear differental then you need the rear pinion seal, to get to seal you must remove the yolk, thats the part the driveshaft connects to, theres a big nut that must be removed, mark it and count your turns, when removed you will see the seal hope this helps.

'95 Ford Bronco full size I dropped the rear

Normally when you take driveshaft off, you'll see a big nut in behind it, that attaches yolk to differential. Remove that big nut, and it should come out, but may need a puller. It's splined, and should be a bearing in housing, yolk.
