What have you tried so far, have you checked the fuses? do you have brake lights but no running lights? or no lights at all, no matter what?

The most common problem I have found is bad grounds on the sockets. With that said, make sure all the grounds are clean and tight. Check and double check the fuses. if this does not remidy the situation. You may have either a broken wire somewhere from the switch to the rear of the van, or a bad switch itself. If you have a test light you need to start checking from the switch back to the lights and determine where the loss of voltage is at. I assume you checked the bulbs and they are good.

What wiring do i need to check when i hit my breaks and my head lights pop up?

Now that's funny! Rear fixed...front pops! Since the rear is where the work took place you need to check for crossed wires at the brake lights and turn signal lights. If there is uneven current draw on the circuits, the lights in front could be getting some of the power. Brake lights get the most power in the rear bulbs!

Rear running lights

Dear Gill,
Either your rear lights have died or the wires that connect them to the battery have come loose. Take your car to a good mechanic and get him to fix it.

I have a 2002 pontiac aztek. My rear right signal/brake lamp does not work. When i signal left, the front and rear left lights flash normally. When i signal right, the front right light flashes normally...

as for the faster flashing thats as simple as a blown bulb, replace the bulb and see if that fixes the problem, it may fix the lot because the other symptoms you mention are a bad connection, if bulb is fine check the connection isnt loose or corroded over. if it is simply file it back to establish better connectivity,
