On the firewall you will see where the water hoses go into the firewall. One is an intake and one is an output. When the car is cooled down remove the clamps on both hoses and get a proper sized strait adapter and a couple new clamps and clamp the hoses on the new adapter. The car will not be effected you will just not have any heat in the car.

Make sure to secure the hose to so it does not flop around. A couple zip ties will do you.

SOURCE: how to replace a 1991 Lincoln Towncar heater core?

wow. just did this one today. all i can say is have patience. you just have to take the dash completly apart top to bottom. you have to lower your steering colume to. you dont have to take the dash out of the car when you get it off enough on the passanger side just tie it up to the handle at the roof and you got access to the black box on the passanger side. you have to go under the hood and remove two bolts and two hoses to release the black box so you can get the heater core out. you also dont want to forget to disconnect the battery and drain your radiator. I watched my husban do this and i dont know how else to explain this or give better detail i hope i helped.

SOURCE: what do i need to change heater core in my 96

The dash will have to be removed to access the heater box for removal.I would suggest that if you've never done this to have a repair shop do it for you.Its not easy even for a experienced mechanic.

Heater core leaking

Pretty big job but has to be replaced asap. The fumes/vapors from the heater core will eventually come though the registrars and make you sick and mentally affected. If the floor board is wet under carpet, inside front windshield has oily, hard to get off residue and/or sour bittersweet smell; it's already affecting you if you spend much time in the car. Headaches, blurred vision, anger, dark circles under eyes. The heater core going bad is a common thing for Lincoln Towncars. It will cost around $600 to have repaired and about 6 hours. Also FYI, intake manifold recall for repair has expired for most Towncars but it should be looked at for leaks. The factory installed plastic gasget warps.

I have a 1988 Lincoln Towncar. I am replacing the water pump, thermostat and associated hoses. It looks like the previous owner or someone before me replaced hoses at some point. However it looks like...

The bypass hose is usually different sizes on each end.
And the other small hose is usually a heater hose. It may go to the heater core, a control valve, or a metal pipe from the intake.
On some models the second tube is capped.
