Question about 1998 Ford Windstar

2 Answers

I need to change a couple of blown fuses and need access to the fuse panel located near the instrument panel. I have no idea what to do to get to this fuse panel. What do I need to do to access this? My Winstar is a '98. Is there a step by step guide that shows how to do this?

The diagram will show you the location. Sometimes you have to pull it down/forward/toward you and then it will click in a vertical position. Should this be the case there is a little metal handle on the rear of the panel box to aid in pulling it forward.

There is one fuse box located under the dash on the drivers side above the gas and brake pedal. The cover should just pop off. The second fuse box is located in the engine compartment on the drivers side close the the headlamp.

Fuse blown on cigarette lighter, what number fuse do I need ?

Fuse 47 a 15amp fuse is for the cigarette lighter..it's located behind the glove box which you can drop down for easy access.
The "glove box" is the little box that opens on the left side, under the instrument gauges near the left door.......Not the big glove box on the right hand side.

Instrument panel does not light up

Dear friend, my first suggestion is to try turning your dimmer switch up which is usually located near or incorporated with your headlight switch. If that doesnt work, I would check the fuse panel for a blown fuse. Refer to your service manual for the fuse panel location and safe removal of the fuses.

Can't find the heater blower fuse

The interior fuse panel can be found below the instrument panel and the exterior fuse panel beneath the hood, near the battery.
  1. Remove the fuse panel cover.
  2. Locate the fuse to be removed.
  3. If equipped with a small fuse removal tool (usually attached to the inside of the fuse panel cover), use the tool to grasp the fuse. Otherwise, you can use your fingers to pull the fuse from the panel. Remove the fuse and inspect it to see if the filament is blown.
  4. If the fuse is blown, replace it with a fuse of the same amperage rating.
  5. Replace the fuse removal tool, if applicable, then install the fuse panel cover.
  6. If the fuse continues to blow, check the circuit or component that the fuse is protecting, and repair it as necessary.
