Engine running rough why?

did you replace the plugs leads one at a time
and not mix up the firing order

is this plug lead layout the same as your engine ?

if the car was running rough before

could be fuel related
or a burnt valve = uneven cylinder compression

Rats ate my harness and spark plug wires most of the harness is reconnected except 4 black wires. Which don't know where to connect

Have you tried looking online for a wiring diagram? Often, they are available through the Internet. Otherwise, a repair manual or the dealer may be your only choices.

How to replace freeze plug on 1998 dodge ram pickup

Use your crescent wrench to disconnect the positive and negative battery cables. Be careful not to touch both battery posts together with your wrench, as this will damage the battery and possibly harm you.

Use your spark plug socket to gently grab the insulated end of the spark plug wire; pull it away from the tip of the plug. The spark plug socket looks like a regular set of pliers, except that the jaws have rubber inserts to grip the insulation without damaging it. The plug wire itself looks like a 15-gauge wire with a rubber boot on each end: One end is connected to the spark plug present in each of the eight cylinders, while the other end is connected to a coil pack terminal, usually located on the right rear side of the engine compartment. The coil pack is a square, black, solid-state component that has eight terminals for each of the eight plug wires.

Use your spark plug socket to gently pull the coil pack end of the plug wire away from the terminal. Repeat the last two steps until all eight wires are removed.

Consult the service manual for your vehicle's year model and determine the exact firing order. You will need to connect each new wire to the numbered coil pack terminal and the corresponding engine cylinder. Failure to replace the wires in the right order will result in failure of engine operation.

Use your crescent wrench to reconnect the battery cables (black wire to black terminal, red wires to red terminal).

Start the vehicle and make sure it is running smoothly. If you hear misfiring in the engine, use the spark plug wrench to make sure all the connections are properly seated. If the condition continues, you will need to further diagnose the electrical system.

I am having problem with the spark plug wires (firing at the spark plugs). What could possibly be wrong?

If you're seeing spark at the ends of the spark plug wires where they attach to the spark plugs, you most likely have a cracked or worn boot on the wires. It's also possible that the wires aren't tightly connected to the spark plug wires. Pull the ends off (1 at a time) and re-attach to the spark plugs. You should feel a small "click". This would be an indication that you've got a secure connection. If the wires are all tight and you still see sparks, I'd go ahead and replace the wires.

How do I replace the spark plugs in a 2003 Ford Explorer Limited (4.6L V8) and should I replace the coils at the same time?

Hello. Since you did not indicate the total miles on the vehicle I can not speak to the coils. Just replace the spark plugs. There are eight of them and then are located at the end of each of the spark plug wires on the topside of the engine under the hood. Joe

Plug number one not firing

Check the connection inside the lead wire boot.
If you have spark at the wire and not at the plug it can only mean you are not connected fully (or at all) to the plug via the connection point inside the boot.
You may need new wires or you may not have pushed the boot on to the plug far enough to make a connection.

Compression has nothing to do with spark so I wouldn't worry about that just yet.

Need firing order diagram.. wont start

remove the dizzy cap, crank motor over to find out the rotation of the rotor. Remove the no.1 spark plug and bring no.1 piston up to top dead centre on compression stroke, mark side of dizzy body where the end of the rotor points to, replace dizzy cap and see which lead it lines up with.
that will be your no.1 lead, find the firing order and put the leads back on the dizzy cap in the direction of the rotors rotation, run those leads to the corresponding plugs and it should start.

I change my spark plugs and wires on my 1999 ford f150. It was running fine before the change but after it idles fine but when I drive it misfires. The wires are not crossed. If it is the timing, how do...

It sounds as if you posibly got some faulty new spark plugs or wires. It happens more than you might think. If you know anyone that owns a repair shop have them put it on a diagnostis computer and it will tell you what is causing the misfire and which spark plug is faulty if that is what it is.
