Heater on and working - temperature gauge normal. Heater starts to blow cold and temperature gauge goes to full hot and overheated coolant light comes on. Coolant overflow tank full and upper/lower radiator hoses hot and pressurized.

One of two things could be happening... either the radiator is low on coolant or your thermostat is stuck (which if it is stuck you will have to replace) . But first let engine cool down, you need to check coolant level, squeeze one of the radiator hoses even if engine is cooled down to make sure there is little or no pressure in cooling system then remove radiator cap/coolant bottle cap to check level.by the way if it is low you will need to figure out why.. the obvious reason is a leak you may have to go to a shop and have system pressure tested to locate leak to repair.. good luck to ya.. hope this helps

Tried new thermostat new water pump new radiator and new coolant sensor the gauge still reads hot at times I took a temperature gun and shot the temp in and out of the motor when it was hot and and it was running normal 180 degrees out of the motor and going into the motor after the radiator at 150 to 160 derees so I know the gauge could be wrong in the dash but my question is why am I still not able to get the heater to blow hot it only blows cold? And what causes my gauge to not read the proper temp if I know the motor is at the correct temp?

My 2010 dodge journey is running hot and the heater is blowing cold air. Temp goes back down to normal while driving. No indicator lights r on. Is it the thermostat or heater core?

Most likely neither is the problem, to verify the heater core is ok go under the hood and touch the heater core coolant supply hoses (hot engine) one will be really hot and one a little cooler, if this is the case the heater core is ok and you have another problem, that other problem is most likely a failed part or parts called the air temperature control blend door motor or door is defective. Also I doubt the engine is overheating, it gets hotter while sitting in traffic because the electric fan that cools the engine only comes on at about 225 degrees Fahrenheit. If you had an overheat condition the check engine light would also come on to alert you of the overheating condition.

My 2009 Peugeot 308's heating is baffling me when i drive at normal speeds say 30 and above the engine temperature gauge never rises and the heater doesnt work but when im in traffic or parked with th

Thermostat may not be working properly, hot coolant has to circulate via the heater core in order to get heat. Normally operation temperation should be 180 to 200 degrees.

My 2008 dodge ram temp gauge goes from normal to high ,check gauge lite comes on in a few minutes temp gauge goes back to normal but heater will only blow cold air I,ll shut heater off wait a few minutes...

Souds like it's way low on coolant. The heater will blow cold air when the cooling system is so low that there is no water (coolant) running through the heater core. Then the thermostat opens, it trys to be normal but the system is low so it gets too hot in just a few minutes. If its that low, there must be a leak somwhere.

The temp gauge on my 2008 ram 1500 jumps from normal temp to hot checked engine the temp is fine my heater them puts out cold air and I have no heat if I shut heater off and wait a few minutes temp gauge...

It probably low on coolant. The heater will blow cold when there is not enough water (coolant) to keep the heater core full. Check the radiator (not the overflow reservoir) when it's cool.

Heater donot get hot whil running

It could be a plugged heater core or heater control problem. I assume the blower is working, but the air is cold. The first thing to check is the coolant level, make sure there is coolant in the resivoir. Next see if the temerature gauge reaches the normal operating temperature range. If the gauge reads cold most of the time, it would tell you that the thermsotat is faulty and not allowing the engine to reach full operating temperature. If your car doesn't have a temp gauge, the blue cold engine light might stay on for an extended period of time. The thermostat is supposed to not allow coolant flow in the radiator until the engine reaches operating temperature. If you drive the car for a couple of minutes, from cold start, the radiator or upper hose should be cool until the engine reaches operating temp.

Heater blowing cold air

My 2005 Nissan Sentra 1.8s with 55,000 mi. blows cold air from the heater. Coolant not circulating in engine. Lower hose stays cool to touch. Both heater hoses cold. Changed thermostat - didn't fix it. Coolant not leaking or dirty. None in oil - no oil in radiator. Changed worn water pump belt - pump spins freely with no noise or resistance. Cooling fans come on after warm-up. Temperature gauge stays in normal range then jumps to hot and back again. Coolant good to 10 below - didn't freeze here yet. No other problems or repairs to car. Afraid to drive and make worse. Help!
