If the sound is coming from the front of the engine, the most common wear points to check are the idler pulleys on the belts and the fan clutch. With the car shut off, reach in and see if any of those parts will wiggle. You will have to tug pretty hard on the pulleys because the belt is pulling hard on them. You will have to reach up from beneath to check the pulley on the air conditioner belt.

If its pulling then your alignment is off if something is rattling then someone must have hit a curb or something causing damage to your drum or axle causing misalignment

Why is my 1987 300e Mercedes making a loud clanging noise at start up?

I would think the honeycomb ceramic "Brick" inside the Catalytic Converter has broken up, makes a terrible rattling when this happens.

What would cause 99 alero 4 cyl. to make a rattleing sound when idle.. but not when its running at a high rpm.. sounds like its coming from the passenger side of the motor, sounds like something is...

noises are tough, but try getting under the car when the engine is cold and it has been sitting for a while and hit (with your fist) the catalytic converter-the substrate in cats break up and cause rattles that are especially noticable when the vehicle is running at low speeds.

My jeep is making a rattling noise in the front by the grill. What could this be? Someone said it might be my blower?

It could be something as simple as the fan blades rubbing up against the fan shroud or it could be the idler pulley bearings going bad and making a distinct rattling sound. I've seen them rattle till they break off, releasing the engine belts and stranding the vehicle. Have them checked out to see if they have bearing play, are worn and maybe need replacing.

Loud rattle coming from the bottom of engine. mostly heard after letting off the gas, starting and shutting off the vehicle.

Very hard to know without actually hearing the vehicle but,,,With what you describe, the cat/converter 'may' be making the sound. With the car off and engine cool, get under and give the cat/con a really give shove or hit.The insides of them do corrode and the internals make a very loud rattle. If this isn't the problem it will let you see if there is a loose exhaust mount that may also make a rattle.(The cat/con sound is like there is a very loose metal plate hitting something)Its actually the internals of the cat. that have broken loose and rattling inside it.Hope this helps

Engine making noise. Might be from timming chain. Please help?

Sounds like the fan is hitting the cowl. Check the fan for a broken blade or the cowl for any stray pieces that could be hitting the fan. A loose heat shield on the catalytic converter is also a possibility. Heat shields are basically spot welded and most muffler shops won't touch them. Hope this helps to answer your question.
