Question about 1999 Dodge Ram

1 Answer

I have a 1999 Ram 4X4. It gives a click when the key is turned. Changed the battery, same result. Plan on testing the starter when the place opens on Monday. When taking off the starter, noticed a provious owner put a new positive cable from the battery to the starter.

NO START 1999 CAVALIER

If the click you hear is from the starter solenoid mounted on the starter, it could either be a bad starter or poor connections between battery and starter. Raise the hood and listen closely near the starter for the click, when someone turns the key to crank. If the click is from the starter solenoid, have starter tested or replaced. If click is from a relay under the hood, then the start circuit will have to be further diagnosed.

When I turn the ignition key my camry solara 1999 erratically does not start. I have to start again and again until the starter motor get engaged. I had the started changed and the problem is not fixed...

Your starter has a relay that you may want to check. However, I think the problem is actually in your ignition switch itself. The ignition switch supplies the power to your starter and if that switch is going bad it will not send power to your starter. I hope this solves your problem or at least gives you a place to start looking. Best wishes.

1998 dodge ram turn on key and nothing. battery good.

it could be the ani theft system or the starter, go for the starter check the small wire while someone turns the key for you, see if there is power there using a 12 volt test light if so then suspect the starter try hitting it with a hammer if it starts then for sure it is the starter.

How do I know if I need a starter or alternator? 99 dakota 4x4 and when I turn key it clicks without turning over

The problem may not be either. The first thing to do is to make sure your battery is fully charged, if the battery is fully charged then you have either a bad connection or a bad starter.
If the battery is not fully charged the next thing to do is to get the battery fully charged and have it load tested to see if you have a bad battery. Most auto parts stores will do this test for free.
If the battery checks out then your problem is most likely the alternator but before you just replace it have it tested too. You could still be looking a just a bad connection.
One thing that often gets over looked is a weak or bad grounding connection.

Well if your battery is ok than you more than likely need a starter.

Turn key to start get "click" after several "clicks" car starts

the click is caused by the contacts in the starter solenoid being burned and erroded, your truck has a Japanese starter and this is the problem they have most often, and always the give away is the click. U can replace the contacts or the starter solenoid.
