I have my 97 pathfinder in the shop for the same thing. they have checked for plugged exhaust/catalytic converter. and fuel pressure. Can a fuel pump give good pressure readings while at idle, but show problems when driving?

Look for a big red wire thats connected to the big post on the starter.Follow that wire up to the alternator. That wire should have battery voltage there all the time. If it does not, check that the fusible link, which is in that wire is not burnt or broken.

youre going to need to get a volt meter and have someone hold the key in the start posistion while someone else goes under the vehicle and test to see if there is voltage at the starters smaller wire. if there is, replace the starter.

Have you checked the battery cable connections? If so, check the negative battery cable from the battery to the body and from the battery to the engine for breaks or if they are loose. If good, check the positive wire going to the starter, there is also an inline fuse in the pos. cable to the starter that might have blown. But, my guess is that the battery cables are loose. Hope that this helped, good luck. Let me know how it went. I'll be here if you still need me.
