Question about 1994 Oldsmobile Silhouette

1 Answer

Electrical problem My 1994 Silhouette does not always go into overdrive. It also wont up shift when it is hot out. When the air conditioning is on it makes it worse. The transmittion is fine and parts of the electrical have been replaced. The problem is better but has NOT been resolved. There is a vaccum leak in the air conditioning and it will only blow out on the feet setting and defrost setting unless you take your foot off of the accelorator. When I go downhill the air conditioning will blast at me! CAN ANYONE HELP???

Mine did the same thing,it would not shift into overdrive, when it did it kept downshifting. I had to replace the sensor that tells the transmission when to shift and not to. I think it was the shift sensor.

4L60E Transmission wont shift into 2nd or Overdrive

Check the fluid level. You may want to consider having the transmission flushed. (I recommend BG Products flush system.) Properly flushing the trans removes any varnish the may have built up causing erratic behavior.

1994 pontiac bonneville Transmission Modulator does not shift into overdrive

The modulator doesn't control the overdrive shift point. The clutches in the torque converter may be worn out or there may be an electrical problem inside the transmission.

Will not shift in overdive

At the very least you have a 3 speed transmission with overdrive, maybe even more gears. Assuming it is an automatic.
It should shift twice then go into lock-up before shifting into overdrive.
You would feel four shifts under normal conditions.
As far as not shifting, the problem could be electrical or something inside the transmission.
And the check engine light should be on.

Automatic gears

Honda transmissions,as well as most other overdrive transmissions, should be driven at all times in drive 4,or the overdrive position, with the exception of severe driving conditions, such as towing a load, extremely hilly terrain,or long uphill grades, the trans should be taken out of overdrive, and placed in the drive 3 position. This is to prevent the perpetual shifting back and forth of the trans from 3rd into 4th,back to 3rd,back to 4th,back to 3rd,that would eventually damage both the 3rd and 4th gear clutch discs and components.
