If you have oil in your coolant then your head gasket is blown. Be careful, and don't let it fully overheat because you will warp your head and have to buy an entire engine.

I have a 4WD 1998 GMC Jimmy 4.3L Vortec V6 and it started running hot then it shut off and wouldn't start back up... do you think there would be any way to fix without replacing the whole engine

IS THEIR WATER IN THE OIL? CHECK THE PLUGS TO SEE IF THEIR WET.YOU MIGHT PUT SOME PLUGS IN IT IF WET TO SEE IF IT WILL RUN.THEN PUT SOME HEADGASKETS ON IT.BUT IN REALITY NEW MOTOR WOULD BE BEST.

I have a 1999 Saturn sl1 I have had the head gasket replaced and a oil change but my new oil on my dip stick still looks like a choc milk shake color

Then the new gasket was not done properly or was not the only issue to begin with. A crack in the head or block can mix the oil and coolant together as well.

I have a 1998 Saturn. The reservoir often leaks water/antifreeze and light comes on to indicate. I have had water pump as well as reservoir replaced. Doesn't leak everday but still leaks. WHat is this?...

you need to find that leak, is the leak visible? if its not from radiator or the reservoir, the only other place I could think you can lose water is the head gasket. It happens to high miles and hard driver. 100k miles would likely be a head gasket. Leaking head gasket will also cause the engine temperature to rise and run super hot. antifreeze will leak through the head gasket down to your oil pan mixing oil and water. Check your oil by pulling the dip stick and see if you have oil mix with water; it will have a slimy looking colors, oil is light color and it should never be black. if it black than change your oil and inspect it afterward when the car has been running for while. when engine really hot cause the heat to effect the starter not to engage or start or engine is too hot to run. repairing head gasket could run anywere from 500-800 bucks.

My car is running hot I think I need a water pump

It is under the timing chain cover. If the chain has never been replaced, this is the time to do both. You can get a kit with all the parts on ebay for about a hundred bucks. The oil pump is also then accessible, maybe want to do that as well. This is much more involved than replacing the spark plugs, the timing of the cam and crank shafts must be kept right.

How do I replace the gasket and transmission oil in a 1998 Saturn SL1?

simply unbolt the trans pan under the trans and the oil falls to the ground... clean the pan with clean rag. get all old gasket off.. place new gasket in and bolt the pan back into place. tighten the bolts to around 7 lbs. do not over tighten the bolt, you could strip the threds. put new trans fluid in through the dip stick hole that you check the level.

MY 1998 ACHIEVA HAS 120.000 NEVER GIVEN ME A PROBLEM IT STARTS RUNNING ROUGH THEN IT RUNS HOT ON INTERSTATE GOT IT TO A SECURE LOCATION. WHEN I WAS PUTTING IN THE WATER SOMETHING TOLD ME TO TO PULL OIL...

If you have coolant in your oil, it sounds like your head gasket has failed. This is not good. Replacing a head gasket is a major repair.

Try not to drive the car in this condition. Further damage, as significant as destroying the engine, can occur.
