Question about 2009 Cadillac Escalade EXT

2 Answers

I have abnormal wear on the inside tread of the front end of a 2009 Cadillac Escalade EXT with AWD, 18" OEM wheels, and less than 33,000 miles on it. It is a program vehicle. When I bought it the front tires had this wear. I had the wheels rotated and balanced at the local GM dealership and requested that they check the front end alignment and was told all was well. That was about 8,000 miles ago. I now have the same problem with the front tires that were originally on the back. Is this a "normal" problem for this vehicle? If not, should the dealership handle this under warranty?

Tire wear as you outlined is caused either by incorrect toe in or camber setting. Both are components of wheel alignment. Regardless of what you were told, there is no other way that happens.
As to who gets to pay for it depends on your agreement.

I would say it should be a warranty issue. I have a 2007 Silverado 2500 with a diesel engine, and unfortunately GM sort of said "blah" with our front end components. I have had to do tie rods, wheel bearings, pit man arm, idler arm, 2 alignments, and finally I am back to normal wear, but it sucks because I really like GM vehicles. Let me know what you find. I am going to have to say either wheel bearings, or ball joints. That is the most common problem with tire wear other than alignment. Thanks.

2007 cadillac esclade ext front end squeaking.

well it can still be anything, locating a steering/suspension noise can be hard. Based on what you typed, what first comes to mind is the steering pump is worn out. If it is more of a low whining sound instead of squeaking, its probably the steering pump.

How to Diagnose an Alignment Problem?

tire wear is a method of diagnosing an alignment problem
abnormal wear on the insides or out sides of the tread indicates a problem with toe in/out and or camber settings
wheel wobble at speed ( 20 mph up ) indicates castor setting problems
steering wheel not self centering after turns indicates castor settings
steering wandering on the road indicates worn steering /ball joints and or alignment settings out
car running sideways ( crabbing)on the road indicates worn rear suspension parts , broken center bolts on leaf springs ,and rear alignment problems which will affect front end alignment
this is indicated by the steering wheel position off center when driving straight ahead

4wd front hubs

If this is a 4 by 4 and not an AWD, there is a switch on the left side of the steering wheel (on front of dash) that you can turn from two wheel drive to four wheel drive. If it is AWD it is 'always' in AWD.

How to remove and replace front wheel hub assembly on a 2002 CADILLAC ESCALADE EXT (AWD)

Lift and SAFELY support the front of the vehicle.
Remove tire
Remove caliper bracket to steering knuckle bolts- larger and closer to the axle.
Use a wire or strap to support the caliper out of the way.
Remove the rotor
Remove the dust cap-( useless on these, but they put them there anyway)
Remove the axle nut- 36mm
Use a hammer and block of wood to make sure the axle is loose.
Remove the ABS wiring from the body
Remove the 3 15mm bolts from the back side of the knuckle.
Use the block of wood and hammer on the back of the hub flange to loosen the hub.
Remove hub
Clean the surface of rust,
Install new hub.

If you're wondering about the Traction light on the dash...
Make sure you have all the same tires with uniform tire wear. Large differences in tread wear could cause this.. Another cause is a wheel speed sensor that's reading incorrectly and registering one wheel at a different speed than the other speed sensors. This would require the use of a scan tool that can read ABS data, to find the problem.

Hello I have a 2005 Cadilac Escalade ESV and want

Read your owner's manual. It's usually not safe to tow awd vehicles over 45mph or for long distances. Your best bet is a trailer, steering wheel lock and ratchet straps with the vehicle parked front wheels in front of the front wheels of the trailer. But then again, your owner's manual may say something different.
