Question about Chevrolet Suburban

2 Answers

2004 Chevy Suburban quit running after oil and filter change. Took it for a test drive and then it quit running. After this happened, I noticed the oil was dripping out. Replaced the oil and filter again and starter would just click, not turning the motor. Replaced the starter and still just clicks, not turning the motor. Battery is fully charged. Fuel is at 3/4 tank full. A message came on that read "reduce motor power" after the new starter was put in. What can I do?

It sounds like your engine has seized up, try to turn the crankshaft with a ratchet and socket, and if it is i would be having a long talk with whom ever changed you oil.

SOUND LIKE OIL GOT LOW ENOUGH TO LOCK UP THE ENGINE.THE ONLY THING YOU CAN DO IS TRY TURNING ENGINE WITH A LARGE SOCKET 1/2 SOCKET AND 1/2 SOCKET WRENCH.IF MOTOR WONT TURN ENGINE IS LOCK UP FROM LACKING OIL IF ENGINE DOES TURN AFTER USING THE SOCKET THEN.USE A CODE SCANNER TO CHECK WHAT CODE SETTING OFF REDUCE MOTOR POWER.

I have a 2001 Chevy suburban 1500 and this week started to notice a oil leak so i took it back to midas because they did my oil change last week and they said that my oil pressure sending unit was bad and...

Well, it depends on what you would consider "hard to change". The sending unit simply un-screws from the engine (after disconnecting the electrical connector) and the new one simply screws in. Depending on which engine your Suburban is equipped with, it may be a little difficult to get to. Yes, you need a special socket that is designed to remove and install oil pressure sending units. Otherwise there is a great risk of damaging the new sending unit trying to install it. You can purchase the socket at most auto parts outlets, but the cost of the socket may be as much or more than the labor to have a professional technician do the job for you.

My suburban quit running while driving down the road. Seems like not getting fuel. Changed fuel filter. Still no go. How can I determine if it is a pump.

Ah, the famous Chevy fuel pump death in the fuel tank. This is a HAZARDOUS job. Unless you are a sharp mechanic (I assume you're not or you wouldn't be asking about the fuel pump test) I'd take it to the dealer. Sorry.

Did you notice if you where low on gas either or both times this happened? I wonder if it's not a fuel pressure problem? Other wise might give it a tune up air filter, plugs, fuel filter. I've also noticed that chevy's are always happier with a fresh oil change.

I suspect you have had an oil pump failure. To get at the rotory gear oil pump you will have to drop the oil pan. After you take the pan off, ( having drained the oil the oil pump is what the oil pick up line leads into. That pick up assy. is a round shaped disc with a screen inside it. Clean the screen first then the oil pump. Install new oil pan gasket on reassembly. Hope that helps you. Please let me know.

Hopefully the engine was not damaged when the pump broke. If it was you may need a complete engine rebuild, MAYBE.

2005 Prius change in MPG after dealer service

What was the weight of the oil that was put into the engine when it was changed? Prius engines are VERY PICKY about the proper weight of the engine oil. Trust me. I see this quite often. The wrong weight oil can do bizzare things, and def lower your mileage. Something you can check: Take off the tube leading to the throttle body, and look down into the intake. Do you see any oil laying in the intake manifold? If so, you DEF have the wrong weight oil. This will NOT set a Check Engine light, either. Hope this helps.
