Question about 1999 Volkswagen Beetle

Open Question

My 1999 VW Beetle starts and then stops running. Before this problem the car would run for a little while and stall out. Could this be a fuel filter or something else?

Check the wires on the starter and the coil. The starter circuit involves at least these two components.

SOURCE: 1998 beetle - how to get the fuel filter off

The fuel lines are pressurized so you will need to relieve the pressure before you try and remove the filter or you will get a face full of gas. The filter comes off by pushing the fuel line toward the filter and then pushing the quick release button on the fuel line. The fuel line should then decouple - the filter lives under the car near the right rear tire (just in front) Good luck and be careful

SOURCE: my vw beetle stalls out. the mechanic first told

If it was the mass air flow sensor, you will have a check engine light. The small rubber hoses connected to/from the mass air flow connector might have come loose or have a crack, which will cause compression to be too low. Check there before replacing the maf sensor.

SOURCE: something draining battery on 2000 VW Beetle Turbo

If you are sure you have a key off battery drain, what you need to do is connect an ammeter to the negative side of the battery(disconnect the negative battery cable and connect one side of the ammeter to the battery terminal and one side to the and one side to the battery cable) note the reading and start pulling fuses one at a time making sure to put them back in their proper slot when the reading an the ammeter goes down to normal the short will be on the circuit of the fuse you have pulled if any part of these instructions is too difficult have the problem checked by a dealer

SOURCE: Trying to remove a fuel filter From a 2001 VW

VERY CAREFULLY - If you break the quick disconnects on the fuel lines it will cost you a fortune!!! 500.00 + because they have to string NEW FUEL LINES. - I have replaced the fuel filter a couple of times - I have a 2000 beetle with a 1.8 Turbo.

My 1999 vw beetle is burning gas im getting my spark plugs changed tomorrow will it fix it? what else could be wrong? it is still starting up but it is a little shaky and doesnt seem like it wants to...

Wouldn't be a bad idea to also put on a set of good quality spark plug wires while you're at it.

I think I'd also invest in a new air filter.

Hopefully this will take care of your fuel consumption issue.

2002 Beetle - starts but won't keep running.

it could be a bad fuel pump, crank position sensor, broken/misaligned timing belt, etc. basically you need spark, fuel, and air to make the engine run. also the timing belt needs to be not broken and aligned properly.

1999 VW Beetle starts and instantly stalls

You don't have the proper key. The flip key assembly has a chip in it that lets the car keep running. Use old key assembly. To test put the old ket fob next to the ignition switch and see if it keeps running,

if I understand correctly the car starts and runs for a little bit then quits. if this is the case it could be a bad coil.start it and let it run till it stops then feel the coil. if its really hot thats probably your problem

I hit a curb and now the 1999 vw beetle will start but immediatet

You might try looking under the car for smashed fuel lines. The fuel lines run down the sides under the car, running up on a curb could very easily crush them leading to fuel starvation.Good luck,

My 2001 new Beetle will not stay running. It starts up, then 5-8 seconds later will sputter out and die. If I pump the gas peddle a bit after it starts, it trys to stay running longer but then sputters out...

Hi There,
Try this: You will need 2 people - Have someone Spray Starting Fluid in the throttle then start the car and have someone spray the fluid continuously into the throttle. If the car continues to run you have a fuel problem, but if it stalls out, replace the coil pak. Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa!
