Hello Mr Douglas.

Could you describe what is shorting or what happens when it does?
Do lights blink? Gauges stop working? Blows a fuse?
If it is a fuse, which one?

Please return my questions in a comment here and I will be glad to help you towards a repair.
Thank you for using FixYa.

The heater core replacement requires many wire harnesses and connections be unplugged along with ground wires. Not to mention all the components as well.
I doubt you have a short as this would likely blow a fuse by this time.
I suspect a loose connection or a ground wire not properly tightened creating an open circuit rather than a short circuit.
I would suggest you have a talk with the service manager at the dealership you had the work performed.
If they are a good service center they should make you a satisfied customer.
If they give you a hard time about it, let me know and I will try to lead you towards locating the problem, although it may be a difficult one to do over the internet.
    Let me know.
    Thank you for your reply.

I knew that replacing the core would be an expensive repair. Not an easy job at all.
I am sorry it came at your expense.
They should try to make jobs like this one easier to do when engineered.
I worked at a Lincoln dealership years ago and understand your plight.
At the time we tried to make our customers pleased. The world has changed, not always to the good.

Have your local guy look for the things I suggested, but I suspect he would know what I have suggested already.
I hope that your repair goes well and is found easily.
I'd look for a loose screw on a ground wire to begin.
    Take care.

2000 lincoln navigator when i turn on my heat i smell antifreeze from the vent and moisture on windshield

you have a heater core leak. If you start seeing coolant on the passenger side floor, that is another dead giveaway. This is not any easy replacement, you will have to remove the entire dashboard. Heater cores are pretty cheap though, the last one i bought was for a dodge, it was $35.00. I hope this helps.
