Question about 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee

1 Answer

I have a 2004 jeep grand cherokee with just over 40,000 miles on it. It started to overheat randomly so I flushed the system and replaced the thermostat and radiator cap. I still had the same problem, then I learned of the bleed on the top iof the engine and my problem was fixed for a while. Here we are a few months later and I still have the same problem and now my coolant reserve tank is empty... The jeep will run fine for a while, but after 30min to an hour of driving my fan kicks into overdrive, bot the jeep continues to heat up. I turn on the heater and that keeps it at the correct temperature. I dont want to go replacing things I do not need to, can you help? Also, there is usually what I assume is condensation under my jeep in the morning, I thinkl its just water, but could it have a small leak of coolant?

For sure pressure from air in system could have made the outer head gaket a leakpoint unless maybe your waterpump is leaking?either way dont let reservoir go dry because if engine need it draws on it or dumps it back.... try keeping it full an bleed it if needed try to find that leak...

What kind of warranty was on a 2004 Jeep Cherokee engine. I only have a little over 40,000 miles and was told I needed it replaced. My jeep started idling real bad sitting and taking off. The...

If you have the standard inline 6-cylinder, it ain't broke at 40K. I do not know of any Jeep engine that will die at that mileage.
Call any of the chain auto parts stores in your area and ask if they still do free scans of your ECU. It may have error codes stored that will give you a clue to the source of your misery.
If there are no codes stored, I would first be checking ignition wiring (pick a dark area and look under the hood for sparks where none should be), change the plugs and if a miss is still present, it might be wise to have a compression test done. The latter would identify possible broken rings or burned valves; neither of which I have seen on engines with so few miles.

2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee (63,000 mi - V8) Check engine light indicates #1 cylinder misfiring. Spent $$ getting system flushed for carbon residue. Drove 3 weeks, started up, ran rough, and light came on...

The miss, does not just come and go,if it is a engine valve, replace the coil and boot,go from there,if this does not solve the problem, then the injector is gone out,or going out.If it is a engine valve, the miss would never get better, then worse,it would be the same all the time, get him to run a air compression test, get the valves up(close)and see if any air is detected threw the exhaust,or the intake,it will be present if the valve is the problem.

Jeep grand cherokee transmission clunk

well then it sounds to me as if you need a transmission replacement...a flush or service at this point won't do you any good, as the transmission is using the contamination in the fluid to build pressure. so if you flush it all away, then the new fluid is way too thin to build any pressure...just replace your transmission....

My Jeep overheats while sitting idle. When I drive, the gauge goes down quickly. I have had thermostat and fan changed. I have also had the radiator flushed. What can it be?

we have a 2003 and it did the very same thing . Its called cooling fan relay it costs about 60.00 and is located behind the headlight assembly . not very hard to fix if you know anything about cars .

I'm experieince intermittent starting . One day the jeep will crank & start, the next day when I attempt to start it I get nothing.

Its the starter solenoid. Remove 2 bolts and the lead wire and pull the starter out. most local parts stores can test the starter for you, but if the problem is intermittent it might not show up during their test.

On my jeep, after pulling the starter, I disassembled the solenoid. The actual failure of the solenoid was the electrical contact. I cleaned off the corrosion and have had no problems for 40,000 miles.

This means your thermostat is bad. Needs to be replaced. Also do coolant flush.
