Question about 1999 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

1 Answer

My 1997 silverado extra cab 5.7 liter gets terrable mileage around town even though I am vevr easy on the gas pedal . My smog guy said it was rich and I should change the o2 sensor . No code is being sent and it runs perfect. Will a bad 02 sensor before the cat help with gas mileage ? If so how much? Thanks B.P.

Wont help but taking that cat off will also if your running rich truck needs less fuel more air check air filter....cutting that catylitic off depends on where u are check the law.....but that will improve mileage alot ...so would dual exhaust....BTW all the O2 sensor does is tell u when its out of wack so cant see it being the problem if no engine light warnings...

Keep the tires inflated to at least 34 PSI drive under 65 MPH and accelerate like you have an egg under the gas pedal.

These are not good for much better than that in town. You could try a fuel system cleaner. (BG 44k)

Hi guys...my yaris is running rich, has poor gas mileage (360km on a full tank). and very slow and choppy idle (idles like a really old car) these are the things i have done so far : change air and fu

Do the following:
1. Clean the throttle body from inside.
2. Adjust the spark plugs gap to 1.00 mm.
3. Check fuel pump pressure. (44 Psi - 49 psi)
4. Remove the negative battery terminal for 5 minutes.
5. Connect the battery terminal.
6. Check the engine oil level and coolant level.
NOTE: Before starting the engine shut off all lights and loads for example room light, blower, radio, parking light etc.
7. Start the engine and hold the throttle at 3000 rpm till radiator fan comes on.
8. After the fan comes on release the throttle pedal and let it idle for 10 minutes.

Whats the average gas mileage

Well gas mileage depends on alot of things first do you have the very common 350 cid small block or the 454 cid big block,2nd Do you drive like around the speed limit or do you go way faster?3rd Do you do mostly highway or in town driving?4th Is it 2wheel drive or 4 wheel drive?Well your average around town for the 350cid motor around town would be about 15 and on the highway 18. If you have the 454cid you would get about 11 around town and about 15 on the highway these figures are also figuring in that the vehicle is tuned up properly.

Why does my 1997 c 1500 waste alot of gas its a v8 5.0 but it hogs that gas prob. 15 mpg freeway

Hello there:
If you look at your owners manual it will tell you that it is recommended that you only use the 89 or greater octane fuel and any thing below this can damage the engine i have the same truck and i have dome a lot of testing with the different fuels and they are right if i spend the extra 5 or 6 cents to get the good fuel i get better fuel mileage along with following the a regular tuneup intervals and also keeping the tires properly inflated helps out a lot ok So try these easy steps and you will find out that you will start getting better mileage

POOR GAS MILEAGE 1997 Neon (DOHC)

A really dirty air filter will knock down your gas mileage greatly....yes. Also keep in mind that you don't get as good of mileage around town, as you do on the freeway.....35 mpg isn't too shabby....oh and please give me a rating....thank you
