First disconnect the battery then put the key in the ignition then use a paperclip to put in the little hole thats right below the key, while holding the paperclip in the hole turn the key counter clockwise and pull the ignition switch out.

Change ingnition switch on 1978 pontiac firebird trans am

Use a steering wheel puller to remove the snap ring that holds the big spring. Remove the screws that hold the signal light mechanism, and the signal light handle has to be removed. Lift the signal thing up to expose a "torx" headed screw. Remove that screw and the tumbler should pull out fairly easily. That torx screw should have an unthreaded part at the bottom of it. Make sure that comes with it. Sometimes they break off.

Your lock cylinder needs to be removed from the inside of the steering column you need to unbolt it and disconnect any wires that maybe attached to it.

Ford F-350 1988 wont start with key,but power to all other electronics,so not starter? I can start it with the cylinoid start switch by crossing it.

Replace the starter solenoid, I have a 1985 F-150 and did the same thing, it worked, but if it didn't, I was going for the ignition switch next.

Cylinoid installation

Starter Solenoid? It's not hard, unhook the battery and bolt it on. If you need to, draw a diagram of the wiring on a piece of paper to aid you in the install.
