Question about Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD

1 Answer

My 2006 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD will not crank. It was turning over slowly three days ago, now just the click like a dead battery. Battery's good. Could the starter be bad? It does not sound like what I am used to hearing when I think of a bad starter.

"im sure that you have already checked your battery cables to make sure that they are not coroded, if they are then, they need cleaning, " if battery cables were ok, then check the cable connections to the starter to make sure that they are tight , also as long as your charging light wasn't on, alternator should be fine, then i would remove the starter and take it to a auto parts store and have it checked out, "sounds like a starter armature, and possibly the solenoid is bad too, this way you will know if the starter is bad.

The pinion gear could be jammed in the ring gear but if you have considerable mileage on the starter and everything else checks good you could be due for a starter replacement

My 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD Diesel instrument panel went completely out and would not accelerate.

check your timing chain its probably broken. diesels have no spark plugs and uses compression ignition and uses a lot of battery charge to turn it over. thats why it sounded like it was dead. if the chain brakes the upper and lower cam and crank shafts aren't in time together so you get no compression ignition. sorry for your troubles and hope i helped

Are both batteries fully charged showing 12v? I ask this because I don't know if your friend's vehicle was charging. If it wasn't then when you put that battery back in your system it would reduce your overall voltage.

Intermittently all power lost after attempting to start

sounds like you need to clean the terminals on the battery and/or need to replace the battery cables, check both ends of where the cables attatch to the battery clamps, if they look discolored, melted or corroded in any way , replace them.
