Question about 1994 Dodge Dakota Club Cab

Open Question

1994 Dodge Dakota electrical problem - was driving @ about 50 mph, then engine made backfiring noise and quite. Would not start for about 45 minutes. After starting noticed the following: - #13 fuse is good but there is no power at either side of fuse in fuse block - all other fuses show power at both sides in fuse block - headlights stay on with headlight switch off and ignition off (i.e., no key in ignition), can only turn off headlights by pulling the 50Amp headlamp fuse in the Power Distribution Center. - Speedometer stopped working at same time as headlights stopped turning off - Tachometer works sometimes but not always - other dash gauges all work - instrument cluster lights don't work - dome light does not work - heater fan is not working on any setting Thanks

SOURCE: No headlights, or dash lights.

check the ground cable at the battery , youll see a break in the ground wire at the battery box, check to make sure the bolt is tight and not corroded (the break is the ground for most of the lighting )

If everything keeps going like that then it sounds like its a problem with the onboard computer. The computer controls all the guages and would explain why they all fail at the same time.

It sounds like you need a good tune-up, such as spark plugs and/or wires. They will act up when cold and when warmed by engine temperature will let the engine run smoothly again. And possibly a distributor cap/rotor.

its probably the kickdown cable look under the hood its the cable that runs next to the throttle cable see if there's alot of slack or if its too tight and not letting it release all the way.

Engine quits after 3 or 4 miles of driving

I would think either a bad coil, or ignition module,or fuel pump. Sometimes the big relays for these system can cause this symptom so rotate the important ones in the engine compartment. Also if yours has an ASD relay this is your main power one.
