This sounds like it is you abs sensor which could be in a couple of places one it could be on the wheel bearing on the back of the rotor on both of the front wheels or it could be on the axle i am not sure were on this exsact vehicle they are not that exspencive or hard to replace

2000 Lincoln ls 3.9: Sudden Flapping type noise and vibration when applying brakes. Possible ABS problem per brake specialist. Brakes in good condition. Is this a complicated, expensive repair? Thanks

Could be a problem that occurs in the rear emergency brake assembly, especially if a ABS warning light appears. The rear brakes have 2 sets of brake material, one that shows with the disc pads and the second, a hidden drum inside the rear brake rotor. This is for the emergency brakes on many Ford/Lincoln products.

What happens is the emergency brake material breaks off and gets ground up inside the drum and sometimes sets off the ABS lights.

Not a catastrophic expense but it can cost more or less depending where you go. There is a difference in replacement material thickness too, depending on brand. I do not know the opinion of other experts, but it is not a system you can maintain with any expectations of durability. There is just not enough room to do better.

2002 advance track and abs light on and brakes locked car wont move

Check the emergency brakes first. If set, replace the rear cables or just cut them. Next is to have the codes read for the ABS system. Bad bearing or sensor. Just a note. I have seen people drive their vehicles that the bearings lock up.

I have a friend who has a 2004 ford f150. The check engine light and abs light is on and the truck jolts like is trying to shift gears a steady speed. What might be the problem?

Take it to Autozone, Advance, or Oreilys for a FREE scan. Since a problem light is on, the computer will tell you what part is bad.

The ABS can have a problem reading the RPM of each wheel if there is dirt or debris blocking a sensor. Common problems are the rear Emergency brake shoes coming apart within the drum portion of the rear rotor. The rear of the truck has 2 braking systems, an Emergency brake and a service brake.

The ABS portion of your problem can also be scanned with a better scanner having more functions. The "Check engine" light is on a separate system and most minimum priced scanners will work with it. Since the ABS is automatically operating, a malfunction can result in a jolt as the individual brakes are wrongly applied.

The ABS will apply the brakes to the fastest spinning wheel and this will result in a drivetrain jolt.

2002 mercury sable brake light on replaced pads and checked fluids

With the vehicle off, turn the key to the on position and see if there is an ABS light (usually yellow/amber). If so, the brake light is related to the emergency brake and the rear calipers aren't done correctly. If no ABS light, the brake light is most likely the indicator for the ABS system. a sensor is most likely unplugged, damaged or just knocked out of calibration with the ABS drum.

Ford taurus 1996 3.0 ABS ligth on

Hello, These warning lights are pretty accurate. Autozone, Advance, and Oreillys give free scans although the engine system and brake system can require different scanners.

Check your brake fluid level first. The ABS system requires sensors which require counting the revolutions of each wheel. Sometimes the sensors may break, but they can be blinded by dust and debris.

If you have a broken brake pad, the warning light can come on. Often the Emergency brake pad, inside the rear Rotor, can fall apart and trigger an ABS warning.

You need to inspect both the front and rear brakes or take your car to a brake shop for evaluation. Sometimes you can get a free estimate, and some shops can charge for inspecting the Emergency brakes because of the work needed to reach them.

Rear brakes locking up when wet. Now abs light and service light and traction control light all coming on abs cutting in quite often even when it's not wet or slippery

Sounds like possibly your emergency brake cable got stuck at one point in time, its probably wearing your brakes down horribly. Also your rear brake calipers may have gone bad and are partially stuck closed.

My 1995 honda preludes emergency brake doenst work, when you pull it up it comes up easy and the break light does come on, also my ABS light is on and wont turn off

The parking brake problem could be rear brakes out of adjustment, a broken parking brake cable, or a parking brake cable in need of adjustment.

The ABS light mosy likely has nothing to do with your parking brake problem and will have to be diagnosed by first gathering the ABS fault codes from the ABS computer.
