Question about 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee

1 Answer

I have a 96 grand cherokee 4x4 and wanting to put a tow bar on it for pulling to the deer lease and back 400 +/- miles one way. Is there a cost effecient tow bar out there and where can I get it? I've seen the ones that are universal with mounting brackets that bolt to the front, but after taking off the plastic bumper I saw no place to attach them.

Most of the ones I've seen bolt to existing frame holes around the radiator supports. There are a few brands that require some drilling. All come with detailed mounting instructions, but if you have a specific brand I could tell you the specific mounting locations.

HOW TO TOW MY 4X4 JEEP WITH MY PICK-UP TRUCK? WHAT TO DO WITH GEARS?

Hello! Please tow with the front of Jeep at the Pick-up bumper (reverse) Your odometer will not turn (no miles registered for the tow) also, the brake lights should be wired together so you have brake lights on the towed vehicle.Or buy the kit. Put the Jeep in neutral. Chain the front suspension of Jeep so you only have 15-20 degrees movement. Chain the cars together with two different sets of chains- one to the tow hook and one frame to frame. Put a sign and red rag on rear of Jeep.This is a safe tow.

I am towing my 2001 jeep grand cherokee 4x4 in a tow dolly. Do I need to disconnect the rear drive shaft before towing?

Yes, because it will turn the transmission while you are towing. The problem is that the trans will not be getting any lubrication while it turns. Hope this helps.

I need to tow a broken down 1996 Grand Cherokee. I don't believe it has tow hooks. What is the best way to flat tow it about 5 miles?

THE BEST WAY is to locate 2 or more points that seem sturdy. nothing plastic. your best bet is hooking the cables up to something underneath the car that is attached to the frame if not the frame itself. Remember that you want to do it right in the middle of the car or 2 points on seperate ends to have an even nice pull

Is a 1996 jeep cherokee a towable vehicle? {auto trans.}

does your transfer case have a neutral? if so shift to neutral and it can be towed.if its alltime 4x4 or auto then not above 35 mph for more than 50 miles. if this is to be a tow vehicle i strongly suggest a car trailer. the maintinance is less its easier to pull and hook up and there is no wear and tear on your vehicle.

All wheel drive v8 issues 96 Jeep Grnd Cherokee Ltd

Any all wheel drive will give less fuel miles.(compared to ones you engage as needed) The Chrysler v8 is a time proven engine, pretty much a copycat of a chevy with some changes to make it their own. Overall, I haven't heard any really bad stuff about them. If you look at the problems on this site, there seem to be fewer jeep probs than all other vehicles. (even though some problems are really weird!!!)
What you really need to see is the vehicles history to make sure it's been maintained and has not been back to a shop for the same thing over and over.
Good luck!
