You need a bcm (BODY CONTORL MODULE) or are you look for an ECM or PCM, the part number is looked up by the part store you are dealing with, the number you need is the computer number, you will need to remove the old unit and theres a tag on it it will have the number needed to replace it but make sure you are looking for the right computer because they will not refund you on an electrical part, and computers are never returnable, also this compuetr needs to be flash programed, the # you are looking for is the oem #. the computer will have it,good luck

Hi, it is best to get these at a salvage yard. They will know which one fits your car, and the price is much better. The BCM rarely fails, so a used one is quite reliable. There is also a used on on ebay here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/97-98-99-00-01-GRAND-PRIX-MONTANA-VENTURE-BCM-COMPUTER-/350007703646
This post includes an ID number that you can check against your BCM: ID# 10293828

I hsve a 2008 saturn sky base 2.4L. The dealer says I need a new body control module. My question does the new BCM require reprogramming? If it doesn't then I will replace myself. Thanks

Body Control Module (BCM) Replacement and Reprogramming
If the BCM is replaced or requires reprogramming, the following procedures must be performed in the specified order:
BCM Setup -- Using a scan tool, go to Vehicle Control Systems » Computer/Integrating Systems » Module Setup » Body Control Module. Select Setup BCM and follow the on-screen instructions, making sure to select the proper RPOs and input the VIN correctly.
BPP Sensor Calibration--Refer to Brake Pedal Position Sensor Calibration
Program Key Fobs--Refer to Transmitter Programming
Setup SDM Part Number in BCM -- Using a scan tool, go to Vehicle Control Systems » Computer/Integrating Systems » Module Setup » Body Control Module. Select Setup SDM Part Number in BCM and follow the on-screen instructions.

Changed bcm any ideas

I do like your approach...

Changing out the entire BCM is not subtle...!!!

If you plan on keeping the vehicle (un-identified)... It will allow you plenty of good spares... and you will still come out cheaper than taking it to the shop (owners simply break fewer things)...

HOWEVER...

The NEW Body Control Module... needs to be profiled to
the specifics of your vehicle (make/model/year.. WOULD ALLOW BETTER SPECULATION)

If/When you get an OBD reader... and start checking your registered codes... you can NARROW down the number of inappropriate spares... in favor of THOSE you may actually need...

Try to get an OBD READER (writer) that will allow you to actually "option" your vehicle specifics ... into the new BCM.

Just to make your choices more difficult.. they have PC based apps... and now BLUETOOTH APPS for those smart phones.

Just try to remember... when you are "WRITING" things into your
vehicles MEMORY... You would be VERY WELL ADVISED to know what you are doing... (I'm just saying).

Good luck...

I got a used Body Control Module today from the junk yard and when installed the horn and wipers started working at the same time.Does it needs to be programed or should serial numbers match

The numbers on the original BCM should match the numbers on the replacement BCM. If the numbers are the are the same, in most cases, programming should not be necessary

2004 Chevrolet colorado z71 3.5 4x4. Heater/fan,turn signal, brake lights intermittently flash on and off. Suspect bcm but don't know where bcm is and if it needs to be programmed when replaced

It's located on the passenger side A pillar. Or behind the right kick panel ! The first thing to do would be check all Modules for DTC'S ! Yes the BCM need's to be programmed when replaced !
Introduction
The procedures below will program the body control module (BCM) correctly after BCM related service, or setup the sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) serial number in the BCM after the SDM has been replaced. Before you start, read these procedures carefully and completely.
Programming a new Body Control Module (BCM)
If the BCM has been replaced, perform the following steps in order:
  1. Ensure that the battery is fully charged.
  2. Connect a scan tool to the data link connector (DLC).
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine and all accessories OFF.
  4. Program the BCM. Refer to Service Programming System (SPS) in Programming.
  5. Setup the sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) serial number in the BCM. Select Setup SDM Serial Number in BCM with the scan tool.
  6. Perform the Programming Theft Deterrent System Components in Theft Deterrent.
  7. Program the key fobs. Refer to Transmitter Programming in Keyless Entry.
  8. Clear all diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) with the scan tool.
After the procedure is completed, the personalization settings of the BCM are set to a default setting. Inform the customer that the personalization must be set again. Refer to Vehicle Personalization in Personalization.

How to solve obd code b1001 airbag configaration error

The problem is that the VIN an BCM numbers dont match. You are going to need a scan tool. Go into special functions setup from menu. Enter setup new BCM, do the same to the VIN SDM. If ithese numbers dont match an scan tool cant set it you will need to purchase a new BCM. Body Control Modual. It can be done but some vehicles dont allow it. May need a mechanic.

Where is BCM located on 2002 PT Cruiser locks working even when car is not on have been told to check BCM don't know where to find it

I don't find a body control module for your car, but according to the wiring diagram the door locks are controlled by a keyless entry module which is located on top of the dash behind the ac vents.
There are three fuses that power the module.
Check with your dealer for more details.

My door locks are woring by them them self, they unlock about ever 30 seconds or so,will also turn the interior lights on

On your year , the door locks and several other things are controlled by the Body Control Module (BCM). It is located on the passenger side under the dash. The is a panel to remove to acess it. It is black, and about 7" X 5" square and about 1 1/2" thick. Unfortunetly your car also has a problem with water leaking in on that side threw the cabin filter hole, that is located under the windshield wiper panel on the outside of the car. There is a trim piece that falls off the body and lets water enter. this needs fixed first. Remove the panel (black) there are 4 to 6 screws to remove ,plus the wiper blade arms. The trim piece falls down, fish it out and glue it back in place, over the cabin filter hole. Use RTV or a caulk type glue. Reassemble it. Also a good time to replace that filter. Now go to the BCM. once you get the panel off, 2 screws, You will have to remove the light/bracket that is there also. The BCM clips on to its bracket, so slide it off. Remove the plugs in the BCM and check them for corrossion, A soft wire/brass brush works great. Now for the BCM, this is very suseptable to static charge, so touch any piece of metal before you open it. The plastic case around the BCM will come apart, look at it you will see the tabs. One you get the cover off it will also have corrossion. use the same soft brush to clean it up. Don't scrub on it hard as you can clean things off that you don't want to come off. Once clean, reassemble the cover. Before I ptu the BCM back in place I get some plastic, thin like a trash bag, And wrap the BCM. Put it back in place and pull the plug wires down alittle below the BCM. So if water does get in there again the BCM is protected and the water will follow the wires down, instead of going into the BCM. Have question let me know Randy PS this is not hard to do and New BCMs are expensive and you have to get a new one reprogrammed, more money.

Dome and door lights stay on and run down battery - dealer says we must replace bcm - is there any other solution other than a new part - can a used bcm be a replacement or is there another work around?

I ahve used a used bcm and it workwed out fine as long as the part number crosses over. A good salvage yard should be able to cross over the part number.

Buick Rendezvous 2002 need codes?

the BCM needs to be programmed to operate the computer. a GM techII is now required to calibrate BCM to airbag, stereo, keyless entry, and control pcm data. This is required to make it all work. a gm service should have it done within an hour or less just call and ask them how much it would be to program new BCM. it might cost @$75 to $125 but it is needed, to allow the BCM to work properly.
